April 10, 20215 yr The 'Packages out of Date' thing has happened before most updates, but I've never seen it actually let you download the new ones before, usually the button is greyed out.

April 10, 20215 yr I'm new to this forum. I got the Packages out of date message. When it proceeded and finished, my 162 hours had disappeared from my logbook along with the two bush flights I'd finished and everything else. Is there a way to restore those hours and the credit I had for the things I'd finished?

But the information is stored in the cloud, so it could randomly reappear if you're lucky. Just don't expect it to. Instead, consider yourself lucky it happened with 'only' 162 hours logged. April 10, 20215 yr I don’t think the DFW and SWF updates in the content manager have anything to do with the current problem. Things like updated airports or liveries in the content manager are normally optional - things to be installed (or not) by the end user at a time of their own choosing. I can’t imagine that those particular updates could be so vital that MSFS would disable your online connectivity until they were installed. I did proactively install the two updated airports and updated landing challenge yesterday, and had no problems until today. While setting up a flight on the ground at KBOS, I briefly lost my connection to the server, which is normally no big deal - it usually automatically reconnects after a minute or so. But, when it reconnected I immediately got the “your packages are out of date” message. I answered “no” and shut down the sim. I suspect Asobo pre-staged new content on the servers in anticipation of Tuesday’s World Update 4, and the server is trying to push it now but there is nothing to push because the main sim executable would have to be updated first (from the MS Store), and that won’t happen until Tuesday. Those who answer “yes” to the invitation to download new content are not actually getting anything downloaded at all AFAIK. The sim just promptly resets the logbook and all UI settings back to default. The update server is two days early to the party... This is not the first time this sort of thing has happened in relation to an upcoming major update to MSFS. April 11, 20215 yr I think there is some code that gets run if there is a 'hiccup' in your connection to the servers that checks versions, and somehow the backend updates for World Update 4 have screwed that up. No hiccup, no problem, but any kind of timed out packet or something like that causes the error message. Then their code freaks out if you choose 'yes'. April 11, 20215 yr @marsman2020, I suspect that you mostly are right. I don’t think it has anything to do with a hiccup in your internet connection though. The sim is phoning home to check for updates, we know that. With the current situation, the sim we are flying is no longer the version that Asobo are “running on the backend”. There is a version number mismatch. Our sims are being told they are not up to date, yet Asobo are not actually ready to release the update. Part of the update has leaked out (the three Content updates) but the bulk of it is only due out later this week. Until the version Asobo are hosting on the live servers matches that on our PC’s, problems. I doubt that they can reverse it easily now. Asobo tried a new beta testing system this time around but clearly not enough thought went into it. By issuing beta testers the new sim, they screwed with the primary server version number, meaning all our sims are perpetually out of date and forced to run offline. They want us to update, but when they go back to Asobo to get the update, there is nothing there yet and voila, your PC (or rather the sim) is stuck in a confused loop.
