Scenery Detail As Of v4 and 5

Featured Replies

Did LM update the default FSX SP2 scenery detail at all as of Versions 4 and 5 or is it all basically the same?

You can check the various P3D version release notes to see what was updated.

But on the whole it's basically the same scenery and scenery system from the FSX days.

The only real scenery updates an ESP based sim ever received was with Flight Sim World, which by default included Orbx global base, A2A's accu-feel, PBR support, GPU based gauges, ambient occlusion, true sky and other improvements.

But hey, the bar has been raised a substantial amount and of course all of LM's P3D training scenarios would benefit from more realism including scenery.

Cheers

I may be wrong but I had thought P3D v5+ also had a world update of its own vector scenery (coastlines, rivers, water bodies, roads etc). This was why Orbx Vector is no longer available or needed for v5.

It was certainly much better from my experience than previous versions. Textures, mesh of course is the same.

LM performed a partial update of the vector info in v5 and infact Orbx Vector for P3D v5 is both needed and is available for install from Orbx.

LM updated many of the worlds airport footprints which is a plus but at the same time the updates to the actual airport buildings and parking took a few large steps backwards from the previous.

What is more complete and detailed for Prepar3d 4 or 5. Orbix Global plus Vector or  Ultimate Terrain plus GEX?

Currently using the Flight1 combo on FSX Steam.

It looks to me like the Orbix system also allows those massive free airport packages to.

i had vector in V4, but elected to not install in V5.  I don't miss it to be honest

I sure miss the Orbx Global airport pack... My local airport was way better in V4.

They released the Freeware Airport pack for V5, wasn't it included in the update?

Ah now I see. "Whilst this product can be installed into P3Dv5, you may encounter some compatibility issues with airports. Please check this forum for updates to the pack."

I installed it when it became available for V5 but soon deleted it as there were too many airport errors with double taxi way signs and a mixture of stock airport buildings and those in the airport pack. It really looked like a mess. I still use it in V4.5 and it looks nice in that version.

I had watched the vids posted by G-RFY. I Think both Version 4 and 5 are ahead in appearance of what my FSX-Steam/UT/GEX combo looks like but I would have to compare areas I fly personally like the Pennsylvania ridge and valley terrain. I can VFR my own area because I know the terrain and UT did it well but in those videos the autogen and light and reflections looked so much better.

I can keep fingers crossed that 3red party developement will continue for both Prepar3d and X-plane with the sim community going nuts over MSFS.

I just don't think it's a good idea to have unserious kids on console sharing airspace with serious simmers on PC in multiplayer. The PC version should be vatsim all the way.

As far as I remember, Orbx Vector was not available in my Orbx Central products for v5. I already had it installed for v4.
