June 13, 20214 yr Wondering when we will get water effects in the PC version, like when that float plane lands on water?

DX12 has been supported on GPUs since 2015 (ish), starting generations before the minimum requirement GPUs for MSFS. So if your GPU can handle MSFS, it will do so even better on DX12. The common belief that DX12 requires a lot more graphics memory is wrong. This only happens because of the way it's implemented in P3D v5. In DX12 the memory handling is up to the programmer, and unlike DX11, is not handled automatically by DirectX. LM took the simple route and avoided implementing an advanced GPU memory management altogether, that's why it needs so much VRAM. At least one thing that makes the total switchover more likely is Nvidia dropping driver support for previous versions of windows. Leaving DX12 as pretty much the only PC alternative. I assume AMD will follow suit. Edited June 13, 20214 yr by HiFlyer We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. Yep, they already said at one point both versions are going to be (almost) identical. And gamers outside flight simulation have been used to updates of 10GB or more for years now, at least for AAA titles it's rather common, even a few GB every week is not out of the ordinary. 3 minutes ago, Bobsk8 said: Wondering when we will get water effects in the PC version, like when that float plane lands on water? once the PC version catches up with the console version. There might be an initial delay, but I reckon in August both versions will be in sync. Maybe some additional features for PC, more options, but at least from the same codebase. DX12 is really low-level and burdens a lot more responsibilities of optimising for all kinds of GPU architectures on the programmer, so even for new products it can be a viable option , if they don't need to squeeze every last bit of performance out of your GPU. It can be faster if you optimise it right, but it requires a lot more work than DX11 to implement. My simming system: AMD Ryzen 5800X3D, 32GB RAM, RTX 4070 Ti Super 16GB, LG 38" 3840x1600

Even better, I think for all of the positive publicity, Asobo should send CB a free issue 3080Ti Thanks for the thought! At this point, I'd be happy with like an RX 560 or GTX 1050 that would allow me to continue playing the game (though even if I were rich, I wouldn't want to spend 350€ or more on either). The RTX 3080 Ti and the hot summer don't go too well together. 😄 Even if the DirectX 12 update is very exciting, it is worrying that they are not communicating the updated system requirements in advance. Especially those with GTX 950M/960M laptops are in for a very nasty surprise after downloading the patch.
June 13, 20214 yr We're starting to see a convergence here. Microsoft recently announced that any game you own via XBox GamePass will be able to be streamed at up to 4K to any device you are on, anywhere. They are planning on shipping the XBox "app" with major TV manufacturers. You would only need a controller. You don't even need to own an XBox or a PC in this future. Yes, for something like our hobby with Flight Simulator, where we demand the highest fidelity and have a lot of hardware peripherals, we aren't going to stream it to a TV. But we could, in the near future. Edited June 13, 20214 yr by Gulfstream
June 13, 20214 yr Please...DirectX 12 PC version soon, better effects, more efficient, etc. Btw, do the XBox users get Dubai (as seen in the video) for free, requires an upgraded version on the PC? Darryl

June 13, 20214 yr Area 51 at the end there, the ground textures seem higher quality than we have on PC right now. There's also a seam in the imagery which isn't there right now. It's interesting. It doesn't seem to be custom scenery, there's generic airport buildings in the distance. Edited June 13, 20214 yr by Tuskin38
June 13, 20214 yr Area 51 (I'm using a texture pack for the runways so ignore that part). That seam is weird, wonder if it's just an artifact. Edited June 13, 20214 yr by Tuskin38
June 13, 20214 yr As an owner of pretty much all the tech - the XBOX requires peripherals except mouse and keyboard to have an XBOX security chip on board for them to work. So unless your peripheral has that chip it will not work on XBOX. Some peripherals like pedals will work if connected via a HOTAS with the security chip. PS5 is just the same. I have both and a gaming laptop amongst a lot of other kit. I would expect MSFS on the Series X to perform in line with a top spec current PC as the code can be highly optimised as the hardware is completely defined. CJ
