One VERY important thing about Windows 11. YOU MUST have TPM enabled in your bios. If not.. No Windows 11 for you.. And trust me. This requirement is a GOOD thing.

What's TPM?

How does one upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 Pro? And is it worth it? Will MSFS run better?

Oh, so it does (need TPM)! Looks like many mobos to have have the capability but don't ship with the chip. My PC was built in 2017 and has the slot. On the plus side, the one I need is only £9 and it looks easy enough to install.

That said, I'm planning to buy a new PC with the next Intel CPU release so it may be a little moot in my case.

Even if you don't have a dedicated TPM 2.0 chip on your motherboard, it may be possible to enable a kind of CPU-based CPM-emulation in your BIOS. For my AMD Ryzen system, this is called fTPM, and switching it on also made the Windows 11 compatibility checker say that my system is now ready for Windows 11 (when the function was disabled, it announced I may need a new PC, heh).

Thankfully the mobo I choose has it built it and simply had to turn it on to Firmware Mode for the compatibility check to pass.. Seriously though I applaud Microsoft for this requirement. Yes sure it's going to cause a METRIC word not allowed TON of moaning but the security of it is going to out measure the moaning. I can respect the fact they're in full securing your data mode. Satya Nadella is light years better than the word not allowed Ballmer was as CEO. The moves he made shows he "gets it" and is forward thinking.. Ballmer was a blowhard riding the coattails of Microsofts past

I already have the leak running on my laptop. As soon as it's available for insiders I'm going to install it on my main system to test the sim

Yup, just checked with my i8700k, it's built-in. Switched it on in the BIOS (Advanced\PCH-FW) and it's all good now.

Awesome, there you go!

I can't wait to ignore all the moaning this going to cause. Again.. I applaud them for the Deal or No Deal approach to security..

My motherboard has “1 x TPM header”. Does that mean I just need to buy a chip that plugs into it? Where do you get these and are the manufacturer specific? I suppose that these will be like hens teeth around about now…….

Is Windows 11 officially out yet? and does my PC support TPM? I'm not sure how to tell if my hardware requirements pass the Windows 11 check.

Also how do you upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11?

You probably don't need to buy a TPM chip. Just go into your BIOS and look to enable the CPU-based TPM. For AMD, it's called fTPM, and for Intel it's PTT.

No. This is basically just a preparation thread. It's not due out till fall. . It'll be a free upgrade for Windows 10 users if they meet the requirements
