It still is showing it won't run on my PC. I think it has something to do with secure boot. For some reason my Rog Strix b450-f was set to "other os" instead of "windows UEFI" in the bios boot settings. I've selected Windows UEFI but I think I'd need to reinstall windows 10 in order for secure boot to be enabled.

Something similar just happened to me.  When I installed Win 10 16 months ago on a new PC I had selected UEFI + LEGACY in the BIOS.  Reading the fine print as to potential reasons why the PC Health Checker kept coming back w/ my PC won't run Win 11, I changed to UEFI only, after which I could not boot to the boot drive.  I then ran my USB Restore flash drive (created by Macrium Reflect), and was able to use their routine to restore bootability, which worked fine.  From there I had to fiddle around w/ changes to PTT/TPM in the BIOS, but finally got there and PC is now ready for Win 11.

Wow, they made such a big deal that Windows 10 would be the last version.

Six years ago... Technology, demands, and needs change. It's still technically Windows 10 as they aren't charging existing users for it. It's a free upgrade to refresh the OS to what they see as needed six years later.. It's a refresh.. I'm fine with that.

Both valid comments IMO. I thought at the time it was 'brave' of M$ to claim 10 was the last Windows version you'd ever see or need. The only way I ever saw that likely was if M$ designed an entirely new OS from the ground up, which frankly is what would be best. But that's never likely to happen as there would be no backwards compatibility and everyone would face spending a fortune replacing every piece of hardware and software they already had.

And so it was equally surprising and unsurprising when I read about Win 11 coming along. At some point, they were going to decide that an OS upgrade was going to be more than a decimal point update and more of a new base version, and this is it. If it works better and it costs me nothing extra, who am I to complain?🤞

You also have to take into consideration when this "last version" statement was made was during the first year after Ballmer was replaced. Satya Nadella was still getting a grasp of the company and its direction and future. You can't fix the absolutely stupid things and direction of the company Ballmer did in less than a year after replacing him. Satya is a fantastic CEO and revived Microsoft. Ballmer and his "vision"  was cancer.

Nope he was Senior Vice-President of Research and Development for the Online Services Division during that time period of Windows 8. He took over as CEO for Microsoft in 2014 when Steve Ballmer decided to leave.

It looks like if you have an AMD CPU, which I do, there is a built in TPM type protection with that CPU.

Yes, Bob your right, I've already enabled it in the Bios. Thanks anyhow.

I haven't touched mine yet, messing with the BIOS makes me nervous.

The CPU generation is on the soft floor part of the requirements. It should technically still be possible to upgrade assuming you meet the other requirements on the hard floor category but would have an advisor message.

What do soft floor and hard floor mean in that context please? The internet seems not to know.

You don't need to reinstall windows, if you're on Windows 10 there is a built in program that will convert your drive without wiping data. It will only work if you have less than 4 partitions though.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/mbr-to-gpt

I did it yesterday and it went fine.

Well this thread cost me my evening, enabled it on my x570 a pro, The PC didn’t start anymore, had to make a hard reset with a jumper on the motherboard. Still don’t know why, i have a 3900x which is on the list…

Cool. So, I don't need to worry about that Throttle-Propeller-Mixture-Chip, given my i7-6700K - running MSFS perfectly - isn't listed anyway. Bye, bye W11.
