I just hope 11 doesnt follow the direction of 10 by further  dumbing  down the interface and hiding functionality that was previously easily accessible, its taken me years to get back the level of control I had with earlier windows versions

They are fixing W10 it`s W11.

😂 sorry, that was funny mate.

There a large number of videos now on Youtube regarding W11 and trying to tell people how to workaround the MS app telling them their CP won't run W11. MS has created a nightmare for many PC users.

Unless you do online banking and alike you can simply keep Win10. I know many people still using Win7, which I wouldn't as two years ago I was hit by a UEFI trojan.

Anybody with a modern system (I have recently rebuilt mine) who still cannot enable UEFI in Windows might well find that the primary disk was formatted as MBR and needs converting to GPT. System disks cannot be converted to GPT so one would have to either buy a new primary disk or back up the whole disk then reinstall it after converting. Thank goodness those who sih to do so have a few months to do so.

If not for our beloved sim, everybody would still be on 7.

Given that Windows 7 went EOL in January of 2020, it means no one still using it has received any security updates or other fixes in almost 18 months.   Using Windows 7 on anything but a fully air-gapped network for much longer into the future is going to be asking for trouble.

Nope, missed it completely.  Mea maxima culpa.

It did seem a bit out of character for you, but hey, I guess I'm I'm just one of those people.  😄

And, even still, you can't say that there aren't some massively change-averse people, probably even some on this very forum, who would make an argument like that.

Regarding TPM, my Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming motherboard did not have the TPM chip. But now I've ordered one, you need to get the TPM-SPI chip, not the usual 14-pin or 20-pin one (if you have the same MOBO as me)

(It's apparantly not necessary, because the CPU has the feature built in. It was cheap anyways.)

Just a question:

In BIOS I can set TPM to enabled.

But in Secure Boot settings it says "other OS". I can change it to UEFI, but I haven't dared do it since some people claimed they had to use a backup USB stick and that it wouldntt boot into Windows.

I checked my OS drive in Disk Management, and it says it's a GPT disk.

Is it safe to set Secure Boot to UEFI?

If it doesn't work for some reason, you can just set the setting back. The backup USB would be if you enabled Bitlocker, which isn't related to any of the above (other than it needs TPM to function).

It's also likely Windows is already running in UEFI mode... Open the Device Manager and look for Firmware on the list. Expand that and open System Firmware. It will say the firmware is UEFI compatible if Windows is installed in UEFI mode.

Beta builds starting to go out to Windows Insiders in the week commencing June 28, 2021

And the funny thing is, the Insider builds do not require TPM to function, but you won't be able to transition them to the RTM release. This makes me think that people will very quickly come out with some hack that lets people bypass the TPM requirement... we shall see!

Most 7 users I knew, very much loved the control over pointless updates. There was no ‘security issue’.

Windows now has a built in script to convert system disks over from MBR to GPT without any data loss:
