July 6, 20214 yr Commercial Member It has nothing to do with insider knowledge. It has to do with a comment from someone who was dumbfounded at why LR are dedicating resources to making aircraft as opposed to improving scenery. MY point, and the point Murmer was trying to make, is that scenery developers don't make aircraft. And aircraft developers don't make scenery. THAT...is ridiculously obvious to ANYONE who has the slightest interest in gaming.

Scenery is just the obvious thing in need of artists and modellers. Artists and modellers in desperate need of a modern toolset to bring the sim to life. XP11 is finished with now, we are stuck with what we have, its broken lighting, AMD GPU users cursed with vulcan device loss errors, flickering clouds and square blocks of sky blue sea and mountain bases to name a few. To me, resorting to showing an A330 that doesn't even measure up (yet) to what JAR released some 6 years ago, coupled with Austin being forced to retract his "by the end of the year" comment really implies we are going to have a long wait. Even if the scenery preview blows everyone away (which I hope and expect it will) it seems fair to be a little upset LR decided to devote resources to competing with one of their oldest 3PDs rather than making a better sim for everyone (unless it is the JAR A330?). Reading your posts here and this quote specifically, I think this is simply a case of just lack of knowledge (and honestly expected). Laminar has more people than you assume working on projects, and as has been stated, aircraft devs on the team are not scenery devs. The skillsets are different, and the artists are tasked with their own duties. I cannot speak a whole lot about the future. What I can say is Laminar knows what needs to be done. I am confident in saying that and knowing what's on the horizon. For now, showing a teaser wasn't so much about blowing you away by systems modeling, or all the small details. It was more or less a way to hype up the fact they are paying attention to their bigger market (airliners). I do know Airbus is getting some extra in-sim default treatment compared to that of Boeing systems wise. Austin has made mention of it in the past. As I recall, a project he was a part of sparked that venture, so I think it made sense for Austin to task someone on the aircraft in the teaser you saw. Lastly, the way Laminar works is in a way that allows them to preview things in pieces. For instance, if scenery work has been done, they have builds that allow them to strip that out and not tease it yet, but still include the lighting. There's reasons for this, but we don't really need to hash it out. I'm confident the X-Plane future is bright though. They've got quite a bit going on at the moment. 🙂 Edited July 6, 20214 yr by Cameron XA Founder of X-Aviation

They never made this aircraft. It was either a free donation or paid for by outsourcing it to a modeler. They don't have time or resources to make accurate aircraft for their sim. Let alone a 'fleet' of them!! It could have been Jar. Could have been Ini. Or could have been some random guy who did it cheaper. We will never know. What we do know is sounds and systems will be basic like 737. But that's okay because community guys will come along and improve it. Like Zibo did! http://youtube.com/c/Greazer

This shows the ignorance some people have, and how they think they know something, when in actuality, it's simply an assumption. 3 minutes ago, Greazer said: They don't have time or resources to make accurate aircraft for their sim. I won't mention the aircraft, but I'm sure you remember the HUD that was shown a few months ago. That aircraft was made from scratch. No one donated it. No one was outsourced. I know of another aircraft being included, which I won't say what it is. And that was also made from scratch. I know this because I helped the person with a few tips and suggestions on how to use Substance Painter so he could texture it properly with the correct workflow. Occasionally, they may contract a developer. I was contracted to texture the XP11 fuel truck and make heavy modifications to the XP11 limo. But much of their assets are made in house. They have hired people to do this work. I fail to see how you come up with the conclusions you have, other than just having such a strong opinion that LR can't afford to hire people. Austin has put the word out, a few times, that LR is hiring. Mostly, he'll hire by word of mouth from someone on the staff.

To become mainstream? To be a viable and profitable product? I remember when X-Plane 10 was announced, people were screaming "It's too late for all your lighting and bits and pieces. That was 9 years and 2 versions ago (They said it was too late when XP10 was still being made. So they were saying it when XP9 was still the latest version.) People said it was too late for X-Plane last year pre FS2020. They said it was too late AFTER FS2020 came out. And now, almost a year later, they're still saying it's too late. Yet X-Plane is still around. Add ons are still selling (Hey, I'm still here and doing this full time). They said it was too late when MS Flight was announced. When P3D was announced. When FlightSim World was announced. 2 of those platforms died quite quickly. 1 before it was even made available. I've asked the question, many times, and no one has given me a proper answer that sticks. Now a new lighting engine (one that is actually accurate and uses real world values. Not just over done ambient occlusion and over saturated colors.) has been implemented. Too late? Nah. Things are now just beginning to get interesting. I can't wait for people to say, "That doesn't look real" only to be faced with "X-Planes lighting and colors are using real world lighting values." Can't get any more "real" than that. Inevitably they will say just that unless XP12 ships with a colour card to enable users to exactly match their monitors gamma, colour, contrast, saturation and brightness etc to these real world values. Otherwise there is no point? Edited July 6, 20214 yr by jarmstro
