July 3, 20214 yr It seems to me only one guy in CS is currently working on 73C, While he is doing his job and fixed some problems we submitted, the whole CS team is in the money pot of MSFS eye candy project then...
July 3, 20214 yr Well I guess something is better than nothing for P3D unlike my incompatible PMDG DC6 and NGX unless I want by another new version or switch to the other sim. On the bright side my CS B737-200 from V4.5 is flyable V5.2 so that made feel a little bit better about the state of things and it is just fun to fly. Gary Stewart
July 3, 20214 yr These guys can go pound it. Not one more penny will be invested into their s*** company. The way they treated MSFS (and the way they keep interacting with customers) has completely discouraged me from spending any more with them even on the P3D side.
July 3, 20214 yr I'll start this response with a disclaimer...this is only my opinion since I do not own the CS 737 classic. It's amusing to read replies whenever the subject of CaptainSim comes to the forefront. I can't think of another developer that immediately draws such sharp criticism. (And yes, I have been simming for well over 30 years and am aware of the history!) OK...the exception may be Carenado...but with them, everyone knows what to expect...and their price points are generally "tolerable" with many people available for third party enhancements to their simpler XML code for eventual updates/upgrades. It's almost like a "Love-Hate" relationship that people have with CaptainSim (if perhaps Love is too strong a word!). I recall when their 767 v2 was released last year...wow...the sparks sure flew for a beta release that was going to be priced at $100. Despite better judgement, about 2-1/2 years ago, I picked up their 757 III product (base + freighter + RR) for $75 during their Christmas sale. At that price, it was pretty good (for me)...despite being non-PBR...as it still is. Last Fall, I picked up their 767 II during an $80 sale (out of Beta)...I was pleasantly surprised by the modeling and the dynamics were better than OK (IMHO)...I didn't experience any of the bugs others had reported. It was also a nostalgic purchase having flown so many hours in the old LDS767. My frustration started over the anticipation of the 767 Freighter release...there was plenty of hype over an initial late 2020/first quarter 2021 release (that was reportedly well into production!)...then in January 2021, CS's official response for the 767 freighter was "We're hoping for a 2021 release.". Silence on status since that time. When the 737-300 was released earlier this year, my first impression was "this is a rip-off of their existing 732 model...same fuselage, new wings with only a new interior model"...that impression was backed up with the lack of PBR on the initial release of the 737 classic. Obviously, the 737-500 has the identical fuselage in real life...I'm guessing the same ole recycled model, once again. For the 737 series, CS is now saying they'll only continue with models in high demand...no further commitment to the popular -400 model which many people were expecting. It's safe to assume, that CS will always follow the money/revenue path...their long history has demonstrated that. They have never had a solid reputation as a customer focused developer. What is frustrating is their lack of commitment to "veiled" promises of future expansions within their product lines. Their CS Forum website responses are primarily taken care of by volunteers...actual CS responses tend to be "curt" if not outright insensitive to customer requests/recommendations. Do I like the CS757 III and CS767 II? Actually, I do. I flew their 732 a lot in P3D v4 with Nickbe's excellent upgrades as well. I have not yet moved this one into P3D v5. Would I support CS on their 737 classic release...nope! It's essentially a dead airframe (IRL) without the freighter variant. To me, it appears this one was rushed to market without PBR, and from the reports, with more than it's fair share of bugs. Backed by that impression, I also have a bad taste over the lack of interest on their part for the 767 freighter expansion release...a real life airframe with plenty still in use. I never bought their triple 7 in the past...and although I currently do not have MSFS, why would I buy their version when the competitor is obviously coming to adapt theirs for MSFS. CS's niche is for airframes no other developer will tackle (or are reluctant to)...the customer will have to decide how much they really, really want that airframe...at the end of the day...that is the only value proposition from this developer (with no guarantees that any bugs will be fixed following release - based on very long history).

I think all of that is a VERY incomplete picture without the details of what Captain Sim pulled with MSFS. That is a WHOLE different side of them you haven't seen yet. Starting from having ZERO systems modeling and using a default 747 for everything lie weights, range, (including the 4 engines showing in 777's EICAS and the aircraft identifying itself as a 747) to the threating to sue livery makers and the site that distributes liveries. THAT is far more important than anything else.

I paid the full $100 price, I'm not 100% satisfied but i'm about ~70% there. My only gripe is the the garbage cockpit geometry (glareshied too short, mcp too long, fmc screens don't bevel out as much... etc.) as well as the VNAV being at most tolerable and at least downright garbage. Performance is meh, I'm thinking it's because of their anti-piracy DRM that's being super aggressive with VM detection; eating up CPU cycles but hey, at least they get their money. Reminds me of secuROM. The 757 was released before PBR was in the engine, and I honestly don't know why they aren't willing to update it. It doesn't take more than a few hours at most to take a model without PBR and make it with PBR materials. Before in FS2004 and FSX they used to be a very good option for classic aircraft, and now they all about forgot their 727 and 707 line of aircraft, both of which were imo the best CS aircraft with the 737 and the L-1011. Honestly if they release a 707 for P3Dv4/v5 right now (and as long as it's not a blatant conversion from FSX) I will probably buy it as soon as it comes out. But if they keep on trying to delve into any aircraft with even one PFD they are not going to be releasing a quality product that is for sure.

I always felt it was a shame CS went down the route they did. I'm a fan of classic jetliners generally and the 707, 727 et al I would very likely have bought had they updated them for v4/v5, I've been sorely tempted by the 732 and L1011 on a number of occasions. Even if the systems aren't necessarily gold standard the modelling on those aircraft still stand out, and the VCs for the 727 & 707 I think could hold up if given a dose of PBR texturing. Their PFD aircraft on the other hand all seem to have a rushed quality to them, I've only ever considered the 767 purely because there are no real equivalents available, whereas the CS Classics did seem to have some genuine merits to them. Either way after the MSFS Debacle CS are on my blacklist, the kinds of tactics they've been engaging are unacceptable regardless of the platform. PUT In the UK. AMD Ryzen 5 5600x & Radeon RX6700XT. Purchased one of their aircraft many, many years ago and think I flew it once then benched it. Frankly, after their whole MSFS 777 debacle I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. July 15, 20214 yr Enjoy the Classic 300; won't be getting the 500 because there's just not enough difference for me. Love the L1011 and 737-200 after the Total Overhaul mod. Their glass airplanes are pretty good for a change, and I understand there is just more demand for those. CS is a survey sim company that has a sort of comfortable fleet similarity for better or worse and ideal for a more casual simmer still enjoying some depth. You could make comparisons with other companies both up and down, but I won't get into that. I wish they would have stuck with the old jets, but it comes down to what people want. I also like Flight 1 / Coolsky's old DC-9 products and usually end up selecting that over Leonardo's Maddog not because they're better per se (obviously there's no comparison) but the old DC-9 (only available in the Megapack) is really very nice and the MD-80 Pro... graphically dated but fun and friendly. I give CS some credit for supporting P3D... but that credit line looks to be reaching its end. I always enjoy the discussion of business practices of companies like Captain Sim and Amazon, though and am glad to see people wrestling with the great moral issues of our day.
July 16, 20214 yr Now -400 is out Also quite some bug fixing is going on for the base pack. CS733 would be one of the most actively supporting P3D aircraft right now, maybe beside FSL320. Well, they have tons of bugs to start with, but some other aircraft I have with minor bugs haven't been patched for months, or more than half a year.... Let's see if CS could keep it's momentum then... CS757 have been quiet for a while though...
