SU5 is not garbage to everyone

Featured Replies

My experience from FSX, P3D and other Sims is that once you start fiddling around in the config files, it's all too easy to forget in a month or two exactly what it was you did, and maybe even that you did anything at all.

It's at that point that the changes you made may come back to bite you.

Probably a smart move on Asobos part that the Sim seems so determined to revert any changes back to default.

It helps, but a bit painful because I have to keep changing it everytime, as the sim overwrites it.

That's unacceptable for many including myself.

It's something I was doing apparently in the settings. You can keep it the same if you don't mess with settings, but it's a bit hard to do when opening DEV projects, as sometimes the project messes with things.

I wonder how many people thought they were going to need a 3080 or 3090 card to get the most out of this Sim and were lamenting the high prices and unavailability, but are now completely rethinking the necessity.

This is me, exactly!

I have a GTX 1080 Ti and actually avoided MSFS for about 9 months, as I thought I wouldn't stand a chance without a 2080 or better.

I'm now running HIGH settings across the board, with super smoothness and average 40-50 FPS.  All plans to invest in a more expensive card are currently cancelled postponed. 🙂

That is most likely due to the fact that your high settings are not high anymore, even though the bar scale says they are.

You may well be right Bob.  I have the fortunate blessing of only just having come back to MSFS, days before SU5, so I don't have a substantial past with the sim to reflect on.

All I can say is that I am very happy with it at present, minus a list of nags that I guess are natural.  The biggest gripe I have with the sim doesn't relate to anything visual or performanec-related;  it's that darned Logbook popping up and breaking the immersion, as soon as I cut the engine/avionics after landing! 😊

I wonder how many of those complaining about visual degradation have also not changed their default settings from XBox to PC?    I have seen some of the same people complaining of visual degradation, that in other posts are also complaining about the blue rings to controls or the new Tool Tips...   This was clearly explained in the update notes,  but if you have not switched your graphic options back to  legacy from the now delivered lock settings (Am NOT talking about the flight model here), then you are forcing your system to use the XBox defaults which may indeed be a degradation over what you had as a PC.

Personally, I have not suffered at all from SU5..  my graphics arer no worse.. in fact may be a little improved and my FPS has solidly gone up on Ultra settings from 40 to 60 and I get no major popping of things close to my plane when looking left and right.

Additionally, I have seen that having the rolling cache on now really does bring benefits as once something is loaded, it stays that way in the rolling cache, even if it's unloaded from real time memory and for me that increases FPS even more.

Just a thought.

I haven't checked that setting yet, in fact don't even remember a setting saying "locked", but why would an update downloaded to a PC set the default to X Box setting?

The release notes went through all of that, but on the first day, it seemed almost nobody had read them in depth. Which created a bunch of avoidable confusion and angst.

Locked Graphic options? WHAT? Where, how, when.....

I used the whole day to do different things with SU5.
I flew in the FBW A320 from LOWI to LGSR. Both Addon airports. Then did some challenges. Then did the flying over Croatia.

Everything flawless. I am 100% happy.

General Options >  Accesability > Cockpit Interaction System.     Change from Lock to legacy if you are on PC  and it affects more than just the blue dials etc.

My guess is many people didn't know this, in fact I don't ever remember seeing the release notes. Going to change that tonight when I get home,  Thanks.

While you are downloading the update, theres a big arrow with the narrative  Update Notes on it..  just click the arrow and it will appear..  can't remember what the other information was..  but there were other things as well that were suggested..  unfortunately I have scrapped the piece of paper I wrote them down on.
