SU5 is not garbage to everyone

I guess those old quad core CPUs will struggle a lot more than mine with 12 fast cores..

Well let me tell you that I still have an old quad core cpu and before MSFS came out I accepted the fact that I'll be needing a new computer. Lo and Behold, I can't believe this old quad core still kicks a$$, sim is smoooooooth  as it can be locked at 40frames, not a single CTD. Very happy with my old quad and with the fact that I saved $$$$$ on a new pc.

I have a mid range PC similiar to the OPs. I agree, I have flown a few long legs now in the Sim, I am able to bump up lots to Ultra and never dip below 30 FPS. There are some annoyances, but its all a tradeoff. We will see how it stands up.

Why dont you just go 1440p?

Running your monitor at native and then render scaling gives the same performance as running at a lower resolution but much much better graphics from a viewing perspective.

I have major problems with throttles on most of my aircraft, but using one that works (Pitts Special) I took it up for a flight over Paris with default Medium settings.  Very fast but the detail was down.  Up to High, where it had mostly been set before the update, but with render scaling set to 100, and much better, and just as fast.  Popped it up to Ultra to see what happened, and again a great overall improvement in graphics with minimal loss of speed.  There were a couple of oddities (flat AI trucks and the Sacre Coeur was a blob until fairly close) but overall I was stunned at performance increase.

There's serious problems with SU5 all right, but that shouldn't obscure the fact that underneath them there's been major fundamental improvements.

Specs:

GTX 2080ti
AMD 3800X
32 GB RAM
80 Mbps Internet
Reverb G2.

Yep.

They did an amazing job on CPU optimisation and memory performance.

They dropped the ball in other areas,

The two are unrelated.

It is sort of the equivalent of Ford updating the Mustang to have massive performance and great fuel efficiency but for some reason the new model also only comes with pink fluffy upholstery and the climate control only works for owners who live in New Jersey.

I had a nice flight with JF Warrior II around Trondheim in Norway tonight, this aircraft works very well with SU5, some small glitches, but very nice to fly, so I feel much better now, what bothers me the most right now are the ugly clouds and the washed out colors, I have a HDR compatible monitor so it helps, but I would prefer to get back the color scheme as it was before.

If it weren’t for the horrible clouds I would be pretty satisfied with SU5.  But the clouds just ruins it for me.  At times they look just look like Skymaxx pro clouds from Xplane.  Sometimes worse.

since I fixed my loading screen freezing issue, it's been fine. Only problem I have with it now is the over saturation.

I like the overall update.  I would not want to go back to SU4.

But SU5 is not perfect some people cannot play at all, and the SDR color gamut and dynamic range issues mean if I want to record videos with clouds that still look good, I need to fly in overcast or at dusk/dawn.

You can like the overall SU5 update and be generally happy but at the same time still be annoyed by some of the unfathomable retrograde decisions they made.

I definitely like the performance boost.  Just hope they get the CTDs under control.

Probably unhandled data my guess.

How would I check for that? It was doing it on a brand new install. I have nothing in my community folder because I just reinstalled the sim a couple days ago now that I can actually play on something besides my bed with a gamepad.

Agree!!! Felw my Warrior down to ESSV from ESSB yesterday evening to pick up my daughter, spend the night in Visby and flew back this morning to ESSB. Just tuched down 20 minuits ago, quite a bumpy ride the last miles from TRS and onwards up towards Stockholm, my daughter didnt like it at all the last 5 miles😏... Tell You for sure!😉 But we tuched down safley 😊

Point beeing... Despite rain, heavy clouds, fog etc... This sim, at least for me, in its current state (SU5 + hotfix) is absolutley fantastic!!! Smooth??? Words beyond that for sure! Its Suuupersmooth! 😊

And I dot have a "rocket-rig" Just an ASUS Ryzen5 16GB DDR4 Nvidia GTX1070

I wonder how many people thought they were going to need a 3080 or 3090 card to get the most out of this Sim and were lamenting the high prices and unavailability, but are now completely rethinking the necessity.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

3, possibly even 4?

j.k...

My specs are similar to the OP and I concur, I've been very pleased so far. There was only one issue with an addon causing the Sim to hang but once rectified no issues whatsoever and performance has been fantastic. Graphics are also stunning. Mind you as it is quite evident it should be played in HDR as that is what its optimized for as it should be. Most peeps only just realizing what HDR is and don't know how to set it up and use it an what to expect, hence a lot of comments about unnatural colors, washed out looks etc. None of these are present if your gear is setup correctly, quite opposite.

Very happy with SU5.
