August 15, 20214 yr Hello. I had been playing MSFS since its launch in the PC and decided to go to the Series X. Don’t get me wrong: it looked amazing! However after 2 weeks I saw its limitation. The graphs are not in Ultra, the anti aliasing/filtering are not the same as in the PC, stutters are still there and when flying over big cities like Paris and London, the FPS drops below 30. Also, the mouse interface is bad. It is indeed a very good game for Series X/S and a truly next-gen. Having it in a £249 console (Series S) is amazing. But I want more, more graphs, I want Orbx Sceneries, PMDG, I want my Logitech Panel to work, I want to not need to pay Xbox Gold to play online… Also, I was very disappointed when I found out that Forza Horizon 5 will be capped at 30FPS in Quality Mode. Gents, Flight Sim is OK at 30 FPS, but racing games? No. Also, as a XPlane fan, I am following the news about the next gen Xplane, let’s ser what happens. I always flew in XP but gave up to MSFS but in a Xbox you cannot fly Xplane. So yeah I’m happy to be back. And don’t get me wrong: long life for the xbox MSFS support, it is amazing, but PC is (much) better.

I'm now glad I HAD to order and wait, for in the interim, I found out that it is totally a locked down ecosystem. No C.F. no sourcing from the Net. That killed it for me, and I cancelled my Xbox X.

MSFS for Xbox is awesome but it is not the same as 4K ULTRA on Win 10. And unfortunately lots of reviewers don't say that. Also, we were bombarded with lots of videos comparing side by side in both platforms. In youtube you have compression and quality loss and things are never the same side by side. I say that because for some reason I preferred my system running at 133% render scaling 1080p rather than 4K in Series X. I started to wonder why, cause it didn't make sense, I'm not a computer/consoles expert, but this is what my eyes were seeing. And I was not running in Ultra, most of things in High and some of them in Ultra. Also the Glass Cockpit refresh rate in Xbox is set to "low" and it is very annoying. I fell frustrated when I see lots of reviewers in youtube saying that MSFS in Xbox Series X and PC look the same, but they don't. Of course PC will cost more, but the experience will be better. Another thing that frustrated me I didn't mention was the addons. Asobo told the developers to build their addons with lots of LOD levels (which means that in a distance the game will render less object with less detail). I started to wonder if the developers would adhere to that. For example, I loved the ORBX Great Britain for MSFS, but for now it is only available for PC. Who knows why... are they trying (or maybe struggling) to optimize it for Xbox? How Xbox will handle addons? Anyway, this is my view, I have other points of view I could share if people ask as well. Maybe I could do a video to clarify things, but I didn't find (yet) a true comparison between PC and Xbox. Edited August 15, 20214 yr by Matheus Vallim Grammar mistake
August 15, 20214 yr I was sitting on the fence between new PC build and XBOX. Took me a few days to realize it's a point and fly game without the ability to connect peripherals just one very ordinary HOTAS available The forums are a bit childish posting vids of airliners flying between buildings inverted etc Not my scene. While this isn't a racing forum you left out detail of Forza 5 on the series X. Forza 5 will have two modes. One will be 30FPS quality mode @ 4K and the other is performance mode of 60FPS @4K . So you do have a choice. The Series S will be 1080P @60fps Edited August 15, 20214 yr by joec63 edit Semper Fi
August 15, 20214 yr I use both. I fly the airline and more real world stuff on PC because its much easier to interact with the cockpit with a mouse and keyboard and also sitting up close to a monitor at a desk. But I've also been enjoying doing bush trips and landing challenges on the Xbox whilst lounging on the couch. I just wish the progress/achievement sync worked properly between the two. If you own MSFS on steam like I do, you can stream MSFS over the network from your main gaming PC to any PC connected to your TV. I do this a lot as some times I just want to lay on the couch lounging and use a wireless xbox controller. I also use a logitech k400r keyboard touch pad combo to control the necessary things you need with a keyboard and mouse. I dont think I could use a xbox controller exclusively. Ah, yeah that's a good way of doing it. I have the Microsoft Store version so wouldn't be able to do that unfortunately. Back in the day when I shared a one bed apartment with my ex I had the PC hooked up to the living room TV to get round the lack of space for a desk, but as soon as I upsized my PC got its own room and desk and the TV now just has an Xbox under it! August 15, 20214 yr Thanks for the insights OP. Forza 5 will be awesome but I’ll certainly buy it on PC. I have a console (PS5) but I pretty much only use it for exclusive sports games not available on PC (MLB The Show, NHL, the new EA golf game next year). Any sim games live on my PC with all of my peripherals (clearly I’m not the target audience for MSFS on Xbox in any event). As I typed this I realized that of course I would have to buy forza on PC…doesn’t exist on PS5. August 15, 20214 yr MSFS actually runs at 1440p on X-Box Series X and is upscaled to 4k. So not native. Yeah I agree Forza Horizon 5 looks amazing and will be a day 1 purchase for me. On PC of course. I want to run it at its full potential. If its neatly done you can get very long HDMI cables from Amazon and still hook your gaming rig up to the TV. In the place I lived before my rig was upstairs and my big TV downstairs. I got those neat wall cable-hiders. Inside that I ran a 15 meter long HDMI cable & USB hub. You couldn't even tell a PC was feeding the TV. You couldn't even tell a long wire channel was alongside the stairs. The USB hub took the wireless keyboard & PS4 or Xbox controller. Edited August 15, 20214 yr by ThrottleUp

Depending on distance I'd be inclined to go the DM / HDMI-over-Cat6 route rather than 10m+ HDMI cables. You can also get fancy DM transmitters that will take USB as well and transmit all over one Cat6 cable.
