The mid-spec MFS 2020 includes a 172 with steam gauges

MSFS Premium Deluxe has 172 with analog gauges

Life time flight sim enthusiast, current airplane owner 172P (past C182F). FAA CP/IR ASEL/AMEL, FI ASEL

My System: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D , MSI X870 GAMING PLUS, 64G RAM, ASUS RTX5090, 4T SSD

Put my hands on (pic/dual/given)

7GCAA, 8KCAB, BE24, BE76, BE35-C33, BE35, C150, C152, C172B/N/P/R/SP, 182F, M20E,M20C, M20J, AT6(SNJ4), PA28-140,PA28-151, PA28-161,PA28-181,PA28RT-201,PA28R-180/201T, PA24-250, PA32-300R, PA44, AC114, YAK-18T, YAK-52, SR22

and it is a pretty faithful representation of a 172 to boot

I've flown a 172 in the RW and the premium deluxe version is pretty accurate and has steam gauges.

I haven't got to grips with the G1000 yet either.

Ryzen 5800X3D, Nvidia RTX5080 - 32 Gig DDR4 RAM, 1TB & 2 TB NVME drives - Windows 11 64 bit MSFS 2024 Premium Deluxe Edition Resolution 2560 x 1440 (32 inch curved monitor)

+1 on the premium deluxe steam gauge c172 it is actually very good.

You also pick up a couple of other planes including the Pipistrel Virus which is a bit of an unrecognised gem for sight seeing and scenic tours.

With regard to the G1000.  One good solution is to download and install the freeware version of the gtn750 touchscreen and install the extra files that allow it to substitute for the g1000 in a fair few default aircraft (including the G1000 Cessna). The gtn750 is  a much more modern GPS and, having a touch screen, is actually far more intuitive to use compared to the G1000.

(They do also have a subscribed premium version but the freeware one is fine for normal use.)

I tried out the 172 in the Standard Edition  and wasn’t impressed. I just flew the RW yesterday and it’s too bad they can’t engineer force feedback on the yoke and pedals, and adjust on the basis of the aircraft you are flying.

I actually spoke to the owner of CH Products about 15 or so years ago when the force feedback joysticks started hitting the market.  It never materialized.

I am just wondering if it is time to upgrade my yoke and pedals.  I am using CH Products.  They are probably 20 years old.

Anybody using the Logitech Saitek yoke and pedals?
Or have any suggestions?

Thanks!

I really like the Honeycomb line, but good luck finding one.

Most people like the Honeycomb yoke, unless you want to pay a fortune.

If the potentiometer breaks in the CH pedals, then this is the exact one for replacement:

Finding an actual  C 172 with a G1000 would be pretty rare indeed.

I have a few hundred hours in a real C 172. I don't like using yokes in a flight sim, I use a Thrustmaster T16000M . Gave up on yokes years ago, must of them really suck and take up way  too much room.

I just unboxed my Honeycomb Yoke after having the CH Yoke I got for XMAS in '03 or '04. I have not used it yet as I'm still waiting for the throttle quadrant  (Yes they were both in stock 2 weeks ago) to show up... It feels miles ahead of my old CH plastic yoke. I've wanted the Saitek one for years but never pulled the trigger.

FFB Yokes and pedals are limited to Brunner pretty much - and Brunner are true professional gear  and priced accordingly, expect to spend thousands of US Dollars.

In terms of non FFB pedals most people say the choice is between the Crosswinds and the TPR pendulums.

For a yoke - if you are on a budget the Honeycomb stuff is sort of pro-sumer level and good for the price. The best of the "budget" options.  I seriously would not go any cheaper than the Honeycomb.

However - I put my name down for a Fulcrum yoke last year and whilst pricier than the Honeycomb, it is pretty amazing.  I think currently you pre-order and they ship in 4 to 6 weeks.

  • Full metal construction including the yoke handle itself.
  • Hall sensors
  • Actual aircraft quality switch gear in the handle
  • Removable handle that can be swapped out eventually for different styles.
  • None of the surplus extra switch gear on the base that doubles up with your other panels and never works right
  • full 180 degree Aileron and 8" elevator deflection.
