I have also seen them at LOWI, I assume we will get an update from ORBX I have their Innsbruck installed, has anybody flown there with out the ORBX Innsbruck add on?

I don't have ORBX LOWI, only London and Dubai Citypacks... and even with an empty community folder and resetting the rolling cache again, the problem persists.

They can be seen at the bottom of runway 8, they don't appear if you're too far or too close to that point.

I just flew along the Bavarian Alps west towards Lake Constance. Beautiful area, spoiled by lots of ugly spikes. No fun, no fun at all !!

I have just flown from EDDO Agathazell,  a cute small airfield, to Lake Constance to land in LOIH Dornbirn and didn't see anything wrong.

2 hour flight across central Germany in the C172 G1000 with NXi and no spikes at all. I think it is possible that spikes and other oddities could be caused by streamed data and it may have nothing to do with the installed package. Clear cache and try the same area another day to check.

Very interesting. Over at the MSFS forum I was suggested to do this:

-delete rolling cache

-make sure no addons are loaded, neither in the Community folder, nor in Marketplace

-delete Content.xml

-delete the contents of the SceneryIndexes folder

-delete (or move to a different location) the contents of the Packages folder

I did all that and then my spikes were all gone. Now I'm in the process to reload my community folder again, using the add-on linker. Just re-installing my previous content brought all spikes back. 🥵

Any attempt to stretch fuel is guaranteed to increase headwinds

There is a so far, 43 post topic here.
https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/update-6-lowi-elevation-glitches/450750/24
All the same questions, mostly by the same people, all the same answers and mostly
the same mix of "look what WU6 did", versus "I am not seeing this at all".
Logically, if everyone has the same files, everyone should see the same and if everyone
with the problem applies the same suggested fixes, those suggested will work.
Most of them are not guesses and they must be applied as suggested and not interpreted.

Before reinstalling MSFS, check the stability of windows.
People do not know, but that is often what gives problems to other programs. 😉

Do you have a tool of some kind that check how stable Windows is?

Is anyone seeing spikes outside of the DACH area?

Good to see that WU6 is not flawed after all !

My community is almost empty on the scenery side except today for  Bijan's Trees and Henrik's Ship Traffic (still at V1). So it is not one of these which brings you grief.

Having built some scenery mods myself, given your list of steps above, it means that one of your mods has terrain adjustments built in.  In your scenery pack, you can select polygonal regions and modify the height of the terrain within the shape.  If the underlying mesh then changes (like it did with SU5), those corrections now could be off and lead to exactly what you are seeing.

I would first look for any scenery that states they are making height adjustments to the areas you are describing.  Most authors include this info in their text if you got your mods from a place like flightsim.to

If not, its down to slow search to find the culprit.  A good way to do this without doing them one at a time, is to do the following:

-- Remove the half of them.  Check if the spike occurs.

IF NO - those are good, start over with the other half

IF YES - one of them in the list has the issue.  Now divide THOSE in half and check as above.

Keep dividing the groups in half until you find the offender.  If its freeware, post a comment on flightsim.to or wherever you got it.  The authors are usually pretty quick to fix their issues.

Good luck

I have often wondered if third party airports and scenery, payware or freeware, can contain spurious landscape data that could affect the landscape thousands of miles away.  If it contains corrupted data, maybe it could.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

ORBX LOWI has at least two big humps in it, as least mine did - have since deleted rolling cache but not re-tested.

There is nothing that requires a scenery modder to limit themselves to a specific area.  its bad practice for just this reason, but nothing stops you from doing it in the SDK.

Please make sure that you have in fact installed World Update 6.
A visit to the Marketplace and selecting free will confirm this.

I just flew LOWI to ESSA.

The scenery was perfect all the way not a single spike anywhere.

I flew in the F14 mostly at 1000', and I shot a video of the whole flight.

Scenery looked great on my 4 monitor system. I will post parts of the video real time, and the whole sped up. The flight was more than an hour long. It will take a while to edit and upload.

Mostly ultra settings on my old system described in my sig below.

Other than the Xbox app install to get the update, I love this update.
