After building my new computer and having MSFS for 2 months, I am very happy with what I am seeing and what can be improved. However I have a question for now.

If I quit the internet connect which features do I lose exactly?

I read that photogrametry for sure. Can anyone confirm? Suppose that if I have the city I want to fly already installed. Not a big one to save space. Do I lose it as well?

Multiplayer is another lost feature. Can I still fly offline and maybe with AI aircrafts in the future?

More features? Ground textures? Lights? Others?

Why don't you see yourself by switching General Options > Data > Online Functionality OFF

Didn't know this option. Thanks. However I am sure there is a general perception on this issue and maybe someone has something to say about this. 🙂

Online functionality in the menu is one thing, losing totally the connectivity is another. 

I am not sure MSFS will be able to function if you, for example, disconnect the LAN cable. Never tried but I would not be surprised if it stops working... 

With data turned off you basically lose everything. Photogrammetry and custom ground textures, detailed streets and realistic autogen buildings, (unless flying over an area that has been previously cached), real-time AI, Live Weather and multiplayer and Azure ATC voices.

I lost internet a couple days ago while simming and what I did notice was all the ground textures changed to offline mode…it was very ugly looking!! But that’s not msfs’s fault, it was my service provider.

That's what I mean. No internet connection...

flying without connectivity is ok if you stick two areas you have cached.  Otherwise its uglyland. Not so bad if you are at 30k feet though other than the fact that you won't have any real-world weather either.

If you are flying from London to Frankfurt for example, you could cash the area around London airport and Frankfurt airport.  You won't really need the bit in between as you will be at 35k feet plus.

What happens if I want to fly VFR in areas I have downloaded photogrammetry? I suppose everthing stays like it was downloaded, right?

With data turned off you basically fly Flight Sim-98 again.

MSFS was designed around the concept of internet streaming of data from satellites. Running the program with the internet off is pointless IMO.

Unless you lose your internet connection mid flight.. as stated above, you can continue your flight without the pretty real time scenery etc,  but still flying 🙂

True, but the OP was talking about deliberately turning it off. Not sure why anyone would want to do that.

Xfinity (Comcast) has a data cap here in eastern Tennessee. 1,200TB I believe each month and they make it seem it's their privilege to allow you to have that much. Since MSFS2020 came on the scene I've been getting a "you've used 75% of your data" email from Xfinity around the 20th day of each month. So yes, if I'm at FL3XX and think about it I do turn Bing Data to OFF for the remainder of the flight.

Bandwidth here is pathetic, too, but that's another story. Fiber-optic is still years away.
