2 years ago, a lot of people (likely including you and some of the MFS fan...s / XP 8ers participating in this thread) were boldly declaring that XP was dead, last nail in the coffin for XP, etc.

Now, after the presentation, I think it's clear that XP is (and will be) far from dead. You all, already did an embarassing figure with those unfounded predictions that turned out to be far from truth. But if you want to embarass yourself with other similar predictions, go on! 🤣

The clouds here are also no existent, but since that bit you cut off in the corner actually says scenery rather than weather, I wasn't surprised.

I don't understand. X-Plane 12 can't do weather and scenery simultaneously? I must be missing something.

different authors work on different things, how is that hard to understand?

Yes, you're missing a lot of things.

The preview shots didn't show all the new features at the same time. Some shots showed say the new sounds, but with the old lighting, some others maybe the new lighting but with legacy clouds, and so on.

They're still in a relatively early phase of development, for this reason the previews we saw use both new and old features, so probably we're gonna see better and better previews as the time goes on and the development continues.

They're at tech demo and have alpha, beta (point it will go on sale), release candidate and final still to go.

I should get time to listen to the Q&A section through the week, but I'd say from what they showed (bearing in mind this is very guestimate, from someone with no insider knowledge) we're probably looking at Q3 2022 for the first beta to drop, there is also a lot of could be much sooner (e.g. run with those bugs) could be much later (e.g. try and fix them first and they end up really hard), but that's my best estimate for the time when XP12 has a chance of getting close to a state where flying it isn't more trouble than its worth.

To be realistic, this is not a new version or Next Gen. One can easily find a scene like this in XP11. With a few mods it would look even better.

So it's up to the community and 3rd party dev's to fix up the graphics all over again.  Some things never change!

Red Flag Alert:  I didn't hear any talk about performance / multi threading.  At this point I would bet the bottom dollar it's going to be like XP11 and quite possibly worse than XP11.

I was there and talked to them, don't expect anything major on scenery from above 5000 to 35000+ they are all generic texture and building, repeat will be there from object, texture and so on. They did not want to show these, are not related to unfinished, you will see some detailed scenery the rest of the world all generic,The 3d trees are rendered in very very low altitude and in short range, a line appears when this is draw. From above it look like XP11 a bit enhanced but nothing major improvement on this area, but this is Austin philosophy, he clearly stated tons of time, not a surprise.

Another thing Austin talked, the performance won't be anything near XP11, expect significant drop.

You may right that its " not a new version or Next Gen" because its not finish.  No need to get the community revd up to start worrying about fix something that is not compete, let alone release. 

While your on the subject about performance, it was smart of them to not discuss performance, again its still not compete. 

Why brag about performance if its subject to change before they had to chance to optimize it after they finish adding things.

Austin,

Please hire some graphics gurus hot shots! This should have been obvious a long time back. XP looks dated to other sims. XP is stuck in the past.  But times have changed.

Not sure if you realize, but Austin doesn't come to avsim...ever.
