Banned from Two Forums - Not Sure how to Resolve

Featured Replies

I have no idea where to post this. Today I received an email from the TFDi forums saying that I was banned for a post that broke the rules. I am not even sure when the last time I posted there was, an I certainly didn't post anything bad whenever that time was. I am afraid someone has hacked into my account and done something. I also realized shortly after that I am banned from the Orbx Forums as well. Something is going on and I don't know how to resolve it. Any help would we appreciated.

Cheers, Pete

Have you responded to the emails sent by those sites?  I would respond that you were probably hacked and you did not make the posts.  Good luck!

Hi Charlie - Orbx didn't even send an email. When I received the Tfdi email today, I started frantically checking other forums, and that is how I noticed the Orbx ban. For Orbx, I send a store support ticket because there was no other option. For Tfdi I filled out something to contest the ban. This is bad news.

Well, it's always a bad idea to use the same password on different sites--keeping track of a bunch of them is a hassle, but a necessary one.  That way if one gets compromised they aren't all immediately compromised.

I'd be changing my passwords on pretty much every site I use if it happened to me--especially anything that could result in a charge or payment of money.

Most sites keep connection logs that admins can use to investigate hacked logins.  If you historically use IP addresses from a single provider and geographical area, a hacked connection from elsewhere will stick out like a sore thumb, and it's reasonable under those circumstances to ask the admins to reset your password and access.  If you hide behind a VPN, however, the bad guys' connection won't look any different than what's in your history, and then it's a matter of your standing and reputation there...and the admin's discretion.

I’ve never used a VPN so they should be able to help out. Hopefully the Orbx ticket will prompt them to look into this, because their forum gives no option to ask for a resolution.

Were you able to reset your password using this link? It now says I’m locked out and can retry in 15 minutes. Crossing my fingers.

That is a shame Sue ,  with a Orbx ban ; I guess it is for life

The shame of it is Sue and I were banned at the same time.  She was banned for supporting me.  I had been banned for two weeks because of something I had said in a post.  I wanted to know what it was I said.  They wouldn't tell me.  We aired our complaints on other forums, including this one.  That got us both banned forever I guess.  I think the straw that broke JV's back was when we changed our avatars to the American Revolution 'Don't Tread on Me' flags.

That was back about 2010 and we have not been paroled yet so I guess we are lifers.

Fortunately the folks at Orbx were able to easily confirm that my account had been hacked, and I now have my forum account back. I am still waiting to hear back from TFDi, so we will see what happens with than one.

I've been pretty vocal on the ORBX forums and have yet to be banned.

A few years ago I criticized ORBX for not including the Isle of Man in their UK regional scenery.  ORBX's rationale was that since Earthsimulations had already done the Isle of Man, ORBX didn't need to bother with it.  Never mind that 1)the other vendor's scenery was very expensive for a tiny island, and 2)it doesn't matter if another developer has already made scenery for the place - it's in the UK, so it should be included in your UK scenery region.  Anyway, I called them out of for this and got a scathing rebuke from, guess who, J. Venema, who said I was being "churlish".  Whatever.

I've also been critical of how long it's taking them to release openLC scenery.

I don't know what some of you wrote to get yourselves banned, but it must have been a doozy.

I don't know either, and they wouldn't tell me.  I guess the final straw were the 'Don't Tread on Me' flag avatars.  Sue and I both had them.  We are allow to post on the limited support forum when we need product support.

I was there when both  Sue and Noel were banned. I can't count the times I, and others, have pled with the ORBX folks to reinstate them. All to no avail. I never even got a response. Maybe it's time we made the plea again. Or boycott ORBX purchases until they do. I, for one, will never, ever buy another product from ORBX until these bans are removed. Will you join me?

That's not acceptable. Everybody deserves a right to defend themselves, and you cant do that unless you know why you've been given the boot.

Not sure why they behave like that when it just gives them a bad name.

Get Last Pass.  Its free, you will have a different password for every website and app, it auto logs in...and they are difficult to hack...here is one I just had it generate....BTyp^@od221U.
