November 8, 20214 yr I was just noticing that the most recent file library updates over the past few days were mostly for FS2004 - it's amazing and wonderful that content is still being created and uploaded for that version. But why is there no activity for MSFS - especially when Flightsim.to is so amazingly popular? Is the file library just not a focus for AVSIM these days? Seems like a missed opportunity. The AVSIM homepage also looks a bit odd when a good chunk of the news posts are FS2004 uploads - maybe suspend the file library updates if it's not a focus anymore? I've got nothing against FS2004 - but those updates make the site look dated, and they bury the actual news articles. This is not a complaint - just curious, since the library was once a major draw for AVSIM.
November 8, 20214 yr When you have something modern like flightsim.to, why would you even bother about something from year 2000 like Avsim library? 😄. I think it will just stay for legacy sims like FS9 and FSX Edited November 8, 20214 yr by omarsmak30 AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, 64GB DDR5 6000MHZ RAM, RX7900XT, FreeSync 165hz 1440p display

I think it will just stay for legacy sims like FS9 and FSX Apart from this, it takes more or less two days to have a single file uploaded to Avsim, compared to two minutes for the same thing at Flightsim.to. I think Avsim should revisit its procedures for uploading files to the site. As someone who can speak with vast experience on the subject, the Avsim library IMO has gone the way of the 8 track, Beta tapes and video disks.....its popularity back in the day was due to the old-time contributors that have since moved on to the new and more efficient way of sharing files with the community. After a 20 year run of uploading my paints here....I will never upload my work here again. Not only because of the antiquated and cumbersome upload and validation process, but for the inexcusable trend in censorship I see in these forums that I've apparently been a victim of, that went generally unnoticed until I was linked back to an old post on a subject I feel strongly about. Anyway.....my level of genuine interest in supporting Avsim financially with the profits garnished off my uploads has all but extinguished, and IMO ever since Tom left this earth, this place has gone downhill. If it were not for the friends I interact with here...well...you know. Maybe the kids at Reddit are on point when describing this place? As I remember it....Advertisers pay to have their banners, and whatnot you see on the left, and now at the bottom of very screen you touch here at Avsim. The more a website can attract viewers, the more they will pay to advertise there. Download pages traditionally draw a steady stream of validated viewers if they are active and socialized to the community as the place to get those free downloads you mention. Advertisers know this an if popular enough, actually complete to get that space. Sadly, I feel Avsim is probably seeing that well dry up as freeware contributors move to places that make it easy for them to upload their files. I bet advertisers are climbing all over each other to grab advertising space at flightsim.to. I may be completely wrong about the process...but advertisers generally go where they know folks will see their ads. November 10, 20214 yr Haven't used the Avsim library since MSFS 2020 was released. No need for it now.

You (and many like you) create and upload you work to the file library here (or used to) and as a result, AVSIM see's an increase in traffic. As a result of that increase in traffic they incur additional advertising revenue. So I can see whats in it for AVSIM....but other than a (now gone) feeling of good will and satisfaction of sharing your work, whats in it for you? Never thought of it like that. Fully appreciate why you would take your work elsewhere if you didn't feel you were being treated fairly here. Maybe ask AVSIM to remove it all from the libary? November 13, 20214 yr This makes me think of the camel and the horse. What is the difference between the two? The camel was designed by a committee. With the founder and the horse rider gone, it may be that no one is personally invested in Avsim now. And I don't mean financially. It's probably now all run by anonymous committee volunteers working a thankless job. If I remember correctly there was a call for volunteers some time ago. Was that call for volunteers answered? I don't know. Regardless, I have nothing but words of appreciation for whoever is managing Avsim today. Thank you. Hardware: i7-8700k, GTX 1070-ti, 32GB ram, NVMe/SSD drives with lots of free space. Software: latest Windows 10 Pro, P3Dv4.5+, FSX Steam, and lots of addons (100+ mostly Orbx stuff).
