Recommendation a Joystick for MSFS

The best option, if you can manage to find one, is get a second hand MS FFB2 on ebay.

Unfortunately they are very rarely listed these days and tend to get snapped up when they do appear.

I have one laying around and never used it on MSFS,

I wonder why you advice this one?

I’d say go for the TM bundle. Better to have a reasonably good three-controller set than a top tier joystick alone. It is not a question to have more hardware for your buck but to have rudder pedals, a too often neglected controller.

If you are on a budget and don't see yourself upgrading in the future then the Thrustmaster T16000 package is well worth it - especially the Stick and throttle. Definitely recommend some damping grease applied to the throttle though as it makes a world of difference. If you are having thoughts of upgrading at any point then I would strongly suggest bypassing the Thrustmaster and looking closely at the VKB Gladiator. Higher quality, more precise and has way more controls on the stick itself.

Flying without rudder pedals is impossible for me, don't see how people do it.

Totally straightforward for me, but I was lousy at crosswind landings in real life, too. Apparently the problem did not lie with the tools, but rather the carpenter, me

I owned a Logitech X52 for many years, but it was hard to fly in MSFS, so I broke down and bought a TM T 160000 joystick and throttle package. It works really well, and is incredibly smooth. I find the throttle a bit "sticky", but there is a kit out there that one can install to provide more precision on that axis.

I have used the Logitech Throttle Quadrant for years and with zero problems. I like the fact that it gives many switch positions too, which I use almost all  of them.

You should consider to get a Yoke instead of a stick, it will provide more feeling than a stick, I know, I have both, HoneyComb Yoke and Throttle is an affordable alternative.

Just keep the ball centered no difference. Not as realistic as rudder peddles but neither is flying a 777 in your underpants

Like everything its down to how much you want to spend.

I invested in TM HOTAS Warthog and TM TPR's.

The Warthog is about 9-10 years old never had a probelm.

The New yoke from TM looks amazing, that might be my first yoke....

The VKB Gladiator NXT is incredible, a lot of bang for your buck and it actually feels like a quality unit. Definitely the best standalone unit with throttle and rudder twist, that also sits comfortably on your desktop without a mount, before you hit the big league stuff. Had the old and new T.16000M prior to this and that almost feels like a flimsy, cheap toy in comparison.

I also have to throw my hat in for the VKB gladiator for the same reasons you stated. I could not be happier with it. It’s a joy (pun not intended)  to use and many of the issues I had with controllability in MSFS using my decade old Saitek stick disappeared when I switched to the gladiator.

It uses optical sensors providing the same benefits of the hall sensors many like on the Thrustmaster T.16000M stick.

Same here. I wonder whether I shouldn’t open it to grease it though.

Funny I went from the CH yoke to the TM Warthog HOTAS for the opposite reason ! Admittedly long ago though, yokes might be more precise these days.

Describe how you make a crosswind landing with no pedals, in detail, in any aircraft?

It’s easy…with and without pedals for me. Kick the plane over from a crab before touch down. Twist axis on a joystick replaces the pedal axis. 🤷🏼‍♂️. If you need to put it in a side slip also easy, you twist.

if your muscle memory is all based on pedals that’s fine but it’s inaccurate to claim it’s impossible to fly without pedals.

Absolutely, Airbus, Boeing, Textron and all the industry is busy adapting the twisting joystick for all their future aircraft 🤣 ! That and the Xbox controller !

Seriously, I am sure that you can adapt your flying to  a twisting joystick or to a a auto-rudder option but the day you try a set of pedals you don't come back .

I personally find twisting rudder superior, been using it for decades now. Have rudder pedals at my feet but only use it for the brakes, as a binary on / off press on all brakes isn't very nice to use.
