Recommendation a Joystick for MSFS

Featured Replies

Absolutely, Airbus, Boeing, Textron and all the industry is busy adapting the twisting joystick for all their future aircraft 🤣 ! That and the Xbox controller !

Seriously, I am sure that you can adapt your flying to  a twisting joystick or to a a auto-rudder option but the day you try a set of pedals you don't come back .

Been hearing these arguments from non-pilots flying sims for many years. I met two of them in person over the years, and watched them make a couple of attempts at a side slip, or crosswind landing correction, which were pretty funny actually. None of them even understood how you taxi a light aircraft in windy conditions.

The best option, if you can manage to find one, is get a second hand MS FFB2 on ebay.

Unfortunately they are very rarely listed these days and tend to get snapped up when they do appear.

Funny I went from the CH yoke to the TM Warthog HOTAS for the opposite reason ! Admittedly long ago though, yokes might be more precise these days.

I have the TM Warthog Hotas also, and a Yoko+ in between them, and yes, it is extremely precise.

Many people liked that stick, I wonder why they stopped making it?

Assume the patent trolls taking over the force feedback patent, essentially killing it, didn't help.

Ok so I called your bluff. You ran out of words?

A twist stick can control the aircraft by its 3 axis. Are you familiar with those?

Didn't think so. Not only is it identical to yoke and rudder but I can also side slip very effectively but I'm also real world so I'm guessing your experience is from fsx training modules.

Over to you tell us why I can't side slip or go cross wind.

Yeah, I have about 600 hours as PIC in GA aircraft. It is not identical to yoke and rudder. If you twist the joystick, you are bound to affect the pitch and roll. That is why people buy rudder pedals all the time. But, each to his own. You could even fly with an X box controller, or a keyboard,  that's pretty unrealistic too.

Hey guys, i'm a novice with only about 150-hour or so in the MSFS, with a set of HOTAS WARTHOG and an rudder pedal.

I think a yoke is more suitable for this very sim rather than a joystick, it's fuzzy when you bank and maintain the pitch with the latter, let alone twist it at the same time. never experienced a yoke but it will be more distinct in this case maybe? especially for GAs.

Speaking of rudder, we all know which way is more decent, isn't it? A sim is for fun certainly, i'm a big fan of racing sim for decade, but i'll never enjoy it with a mouse to steer or click for the pedals, that's Need For Speed way, not Live For Speed.

Sorry for my pathetic English , thank you.😅

Unbelievable, guys...I just removed about a third of the posts in this thread.  There's no reason a thread on a joystick recommendation should descend into something resembling a 3rd-grade playground peeing contest.  So knock it off.

Wow, I didn’t want to start a debate, was not the purpose.

After all your suggestion my variants are the Thrustmaster flight pack, or Thrustmaster TCA Airbus with TFRP rudder pedals separates. The VKB Gladiator stick is very interesting, but unfortunate I can’t find a stock which would ship in my country. Thrustmaster warthog is a very good stick which I want it for long time, but unfortunate I can’t afford it for moment. Maybe in future I will make an other upgrade and I will consider it.The other very interesting option is Honeycomb Yoke which have same problem as the VKB stick. No stock or very expensive at least for what I found. So after all, I want to buy maxim for my budget, the best option are the two Thrustmaster. For now I wait for black friday which is Friday this week  to see if appear a good sale. If then is no good sale, probably I will go for Thrustmaster flight pack.

Thank you all for your suggestion and information, was very helpful for me.

Just to follow up previous posters' comments,

I too have this setup

Does this work well with all single engine aircraft too? It is quite a good price on Amazon at the moment.

And yes, it is perfectly well suited to GA flying too. There is an include screwdriver/rod which can also be used to lock the 2 throttle levers together so they work as one - handy if you're either flying a single engine or simply aren't interested in having separate control of 2 (or 4) engines.

I'm also using the excellent Fulcrum One Yoke (though I expect it would be above your intended budget if the Honeycomb is too much to justify) and the Honeycomb Bravo throttle. I am able to mix and match those 4 items (Airbus stick, throttle, Fulcrum, Bravo) without issue, and occasionally (if rarely) do just that. The buttons on the Airbus stick come in handy even when using the yoke.

OS:     Win11 Home; Mobo: Asus TUF Gaming Z690-Plus WiFi D4; CPU: Intel i5-12400 (Alder Lake) 4.4 GHz
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 64Gb (4x16GB) 3600 MHz; GPU:  MSI Radeon RX 5700XT [8GB]
SSD:  Corsair Force MP510 (for OS);  2x 1TB & 1x 2TB Sabrent Rocket Nvme PCIe 4.0 (one for sim, two for addons)
HDD:  Seagate 3TB (Data); Seagate 1TB (Programs), ASUS TUF Gaming VG32VQ1B Curved 31.5" monitor, 1440p, 38Mbs ethernet

Fulcrum One Yoke, Honeycomb Bravo throttle, Thrustmaster Airbus TCA sidestick & throttle, Logitech Pro pedals, Xbox wireless gamepad (1st gen)

I have a T.16000m stick (no throttle yet can't find stock). I find it to be pretty decent for flight sim - hall effect sensors and almost no deadzones. The little throttle slider is way too tiny though.

To the OP: Avoid being tempted by the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS. This uses pots for the axes and some of the axes can suffer horrible jitter. Mine is collecting dust because of this problem.

Internet myth.

MS made a deal with Immersion and bought 10% of the company back around 2003.

The two patents in question actually expired in 2019 and were not renewed, so are now totally irrelevant.

The FFB2 along with MS other Sidewinder products was almost certainly killed off for the same reason MSFS killed off  Aces Game Studio (Microsoft Simulation Group) which was disbanded around 2009.   The CEO at the time felt that gaming was not a core focus for MS and gaming should in the future be restricted to XBox,  as gaming on PC was not giving MS the right corporate image.

Nice stick, unfortunate is difficult to ship from in my country. The shipping cost is expensive and don’t worth it. I found few on ebay. Thank you for your suggestion.

This is interesting stick and i found it with a good price. If I buy with separate rudder pedals for a better experience come a bit more expensive then the thrustmaster pack, but I take it in consideration. Is suitable for GA too? Or is suit best with Airburs or other airliners? And how is ergonomy at this stick? Thank you.

Interesting find, unfortunate the only option I found shippable in my country is expensive. For example Thrustmaster flight pack is around 257$, this stick is 491$ which is over my budget (probably my wife will call for a divorce if I spend so much money 😂).

Just to clarify,  the Gunfighter MKIII is the expensive one,    the NXT is only $120 in my country.    Just wanted to make sure you didn't mistake the two.

The most precise stick I've ever used is the VKB Gunfighter with their 200m extension.   I'm using mine with 2 x 50lb springs in the pitch axis,  and 2 x 50 lb springs in the roll axis.

I've operated cranes for 30+ years and it's as smooth and precise as any professional gimble I've ever used during my career.
