ASOBO PC-6 vs MilViz PC-6?

Milviz also has disadvantages: unrealistic glass cockpit for the majority of flying Porters,

Hmm, not really...

Here is the opinion of Matt Dearden who was, for a few years, a Brit’ pilot for Susi Air on the Porter in Indonesia

It does seem rather odd to have such a high tech setup in what is quintessentially a bush plane but it’s amazing how the Garmin G950 glass cockpit has made flying easier and safer. The Traffic Avoidance System (TAS) and GPS terrain database are fantastic additions to the older setup providing another level of situational awareness to the pilot. I’m not 100% convinced on the Primary Flight Display (PFD – screen on the left in-front of the pilot), as I still prefer the instant familiarity of the traditional “six pack” instrument setup but it’s a small price to pay for the many additional features the whole setup offers.

You look at the bush pilots flying the Kodiak. Same, glass cockpits make them very happy.

Oh, I don't dispute that pilots prefer or like the glass cockpits.

I just think the majority of PC-6s are not equipped with glass. Less than 100 (and only since 2010) got it from factory and I doubt that that many were retrofitted (costing ~300k$ per frame).

Atleast it's steam gauges.

I would gladly fly the Asobo PC-6 but my problem is I can't start it up.

Are you all getting it to start?

If so, how?

It doesn't even work with CTRL+e for me.

I can get the prop to spin but it doesn't fire

Ciao!

Hey @Milviz this GOTY dud makes your Stage 2 all the more desirable 😄 !

As well as stage 1 for those who didn’t pick it up yet like myself lol.

I have just started mine, cold and dark. You have to carefully follow the check-list.

It's alright for a free default aircraft, for casual simmers who don't want to spend the money.
But I think we knew FSG and MilViz wouldn't exactly be crapping themselves over this release.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's.  Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.

It's an Asobo quality aircraft. I didn't expect anything more. Once again, someone will mod the heck out of it and make it better.

It is crying out for a JPL C152-style total overhaul

No, and at the very start, at the launch interview for MSFS, Jorg said they had no intention to make aircraft with all the bells and whistles, because they would never want to step on the toes of the established third-party community. So they will develop "adequate" aircraft in-house, I guess, which might be fine for some, but they always have the doors wide open for developers out there to do better, for those who want to pay for higher fidelity. The in-house teams aren't competing with anyone. And I think that is a good approach.

Bang on!   Yes, I remember Jorg did say that.

Lets face it, if they tread on the toes of the developers, they will be shooting themselves in the foot.

The initial product offered thirty (30 !) default rather decent aircraft because they didn't want  to step on the toes of the cottage industry ? Rhetorical question.

For the Porter, this is what he recently said . He implies he contacted Milviz and the FSG indie and that they refused, or so it seems to me. I cannot hold my breath to know their version.

Giuseppe: We’re gonna have three Porters in Microsoft Flight Simulator!

Jorg Neumann: It’s because it’s an awesome plane. I totally get it, but I’m really trying hard not to do that. Typically, if for any reason we’d like to make a plane, I look if it has ever been made, contact the person who made it, and ask if they want to work with us. If they say yes, then we work with them. If they say no, at least they have a heads-up that we’re planning to do something. That’s typically how I work.

In any case, for the Porter, he hired two known external developers from the Kok House and some of us suspect that the model also came from Aerosoft. The Porter has a long story there...

Or maybe let MV and the indie earn  a few bucks ?

Lets just say I'm somewhat less keen on what Milviz have sold than many around here, so feel a good free alternative might force them to get their act together.

Hans Hartmann and Alexander Metzger. Alexander also made the flight model of the praised P.149.

Well we all have our pet peeves 😄 so lets say at least let the indie earn a few bucks !
