Hi everyone. I have a killer pc, honeycomb components, and a great but 27” flat monitor. I’m looking to top things off with a good wide monitor with g-sync. I have plenty of room and with reason money is not an issue. Looking for suggestions. Don’t want multiple monitors, want a high quality ultra wide. 
 

Suggestions? Who is using ultrawides?

Lots of topics on this, search the forums. I, and others, have written extensively to death about this. You want g-sync ultimate or normal and NOT compatible; If money is no object. Check LG ultra gear, dell Alienware, or this list, and remember, keep away from compatible :-

If you've got the budget for it, PG35VQ is pretty sweet. HDR is unbelievable. Gsync Ultimate was a requirement of mine. It's ultrawide, but not too ridiculous. I looked at the Alienware 38, which would also be awesome because you get a touch more vertical real estate. The only reason I didn't go for that one is because I'm a snob and wanted a higher brightness nit count. But, the Alienware is also Gsync Ultimate, I believe.

No it’s not. At all. It’s not g-sync hardware based.
For image quality you want LG C1/G1. CX is old(er). But even then it’s only g-sync compatible, which means it suffers from black flickering, if you can’t maintain above 40fps. Due to LFC, it’s nit ‘true’ gsync, because it’s not hardware based, and hardware based eliminates the drawbacks that compatible bring.

But for widescreen (which is what he asked for), along with g-sync, then the CX is way off. (as is the C1/G1) 
 

Like I say, do a forum search, it’s been discussed and written about a lot.

Now that’s what I call a monitor! 

An LG UltraGear 34GP950G is probably my next monitor.

Have Monoprice 48" and its enormous. The Dell and Alienware 38"s are on sale now.

I have the Alienware AW3821. Generally I am content with the product. I purchased it for AUD$1500 dollars which I consider very good value for what it is. Today it is back up to AUD$2500 and no stock.

Previous to this I had the Dell 34" Ultrawide. The 38" ultra wide is miles ahead in all respects. The extra vertical real estate is much appreciated and the monitor also offers a slightly better pixel pitch which helps with AA.

I like  night flying in a darkened room. The previous 34" was poor for this so I limited this type of flying. The Alienware 38" is much more acceptable for night flying. Yes there is IPS glow but it is ok and there is minimal light bled at both the bottom corners, however not bad for a monitor that has this width.

To call this monitor HDR is just wrong. It performs poorly at this task and with a minimal number of backlight zones it looks horrendous at night with HDR enabled. However it is so good in SDR I don’t mind. So if HDR is your thing I would stay away.

I really like the 21:9 aspect ratio for flying. Having g-sync has been a game changer for me personally. While I really like the concept of OLED, the lack of Ultrawide and hardware based g-sync will keep me always from these until when and if that changes. So in summary I would definitely put it on you list to consider.

It should be noted that there are two previous generations of the Dell 34" ultrawide monitors...the first gen 21:9 ultrawide was the U3415W, which was a TN panel without G-Sync.  The second-generation Dell/Alienware AW3420DW is an IPS monitor with 2ms response and the hardware G-Sync module.  The AW3420DW is  a significant step up from its predecessor--really all they have in common is the display size and resolution.

From what I've read, the new 38" version is a better monitor still, with HDR and G-Sync Ultimate, but it also comes in at $1300 (US) versus $800 for the 34" version.

I still prefer a large-format 4K TV for simming--I use a 55" 4K TV for my primary flight sim, but the 34" ultrawide is still a very good solution for simming, especially wide airliner panels or fast movers where you need a little more peripheral vision than what the standard 16:9 monitor will give you.  And G-Sync rocks.  I use my AW3420DW mostly for DCS and occasional retro FSX flights.

Minor correction - I have the U3415 and it's an IPS panel, not TN. For it's time (released six years ago) it has great color accuracy - but old school refresh rates and response times. It's a tough one to upgrade, since while a 144hz+ refresh rate and G-sync are no doubt noticeable, $1,200+ is a lot to pay for that difference. 

OP - you'll notice a HUGE difference going to any one of the displays mentioned above. Going from 27" to a 21:9 34" display is a night and day type difference in experience. Good luck and let us know what you go with.

Mine was the U3415W, manufactured in June 2015.

Definitely an IPS panel.

I have the AW3821DW as well. I'd agree with Michaelray that the HDR isn't great as there's only 8 zones if I remember right. It's also extremely bright when you have HDR switched on which I found uncomfortable. However it's SDR looks fantastic and HDR is often iffily implemented in games so not a deal breaker for me. It's advertised as a 144mhz monitor but you have to go into a mode for that rate which doesn't give great results in terms of artifacts. But 120mhz is no problem. The extra vertical real estate is nice too compared to a 1440p ultrawide - you get about 25% more screen size overall. Due to the screen aspect ratio you'll get black bands on the sides of full screen videos but that doesn't bother me. Overall I'm very happy with it and use it as my work and gaming monitor without any issues. 

In case anyone is interested, I ended up buying the Acer X38S (the new model), which if anyone cares, Amazon now has in stock (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-Sbmiiphzx-Monitor-Ultimate/dp/B09JCM5T3H/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=acer+x38s&qid=1638320898&sr=8-1).

I just think the specs are absolutely awesome. Not much review material yet but the P version got good reviews and this version has fixed some of the issues the P version had.

God awful expensive though. Between a $2000 monitor, an i9-10900, an ASUS 3090, 2 M.2 drives and 3 other SSD's, One hell of an expensive setup, but top notch. I am a retired computer engineer so I love having high end tech. The only thing I didn't do when I built the rig as use water cooling (except for the AIO CPU cooler). Might add more liquid cooling later but we'll see.

Good choice! I love my 38" but mine lacks HDR and G-sync. Which are very nice additions.
