Does REX Weather Force cure the haze?

Featured Replies

Here's what I found thru several recent flights.  Load the sim with "CLEAR SKIES", launch REX WF live weather (this removes the horrible haze everywhere when using MSFS live weather).  Now that I have accurate skies, cloud coverage, etc, I can depart my airfield and climb to cruise.  Since the REX WF is now having issues with winds aloft, I switch over to MSFS live weather for remainder of cruise and descent into destination. When convenient I can then switch back to REX weather and land with accurate skies, visibility, winds, etc.  Although not a desired procedure, it currently works well for me. 👍

That seems harsh. On the principle of "extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof" it would be good to see actual comparisons between the REX injected weather and early FS9, i.e. screen shots. I agree completely that the default MSFS weather depiction is superior to anything I have ever seen before and would also agree that when the bugs are worked out of Live Weather, I will have no need for REX, Active Sky, or most any other imaginable weather add-on.

All of the usual mileage disclaimers apply......

It's not so much how it looks but the pop up of weather as you fly along.  You'd have to see it to know what I'm talking about.  Check out some Youtube videos/reviews of REX.  ActiveSky was the one's who changed the game here going back to FS9.

I'm using REX atm as msfs live weather puts the clouds on the ground since SU7, or has this bug been fixed? I don't think so.

Its amazing the lengths we have to go to get weather that's tolerable for enjoyment.....

Just curious, have you tried the Persistent Weather Load option?  After turning that on I haven't noticed any "pop-up" weather and see fronts in the distance.

MSFS weather is a magnificent replication of nature's own and reverting to old school injected wx would not be an option for me.

This Filbert Flys vid from a week ago really shows off MSFS sky's greatness.

AND remember, patience is a virtue.

Fair enough, but I have to say that I have never seen that phenomenon in WF. This could be a benefit of my old, slow computer, or alternatively, of my old, slow eyeballs.

The temperature bug is bizarre-haven't determine at what altitude it starts so at the moment I slewed down to FL180 and SAT is what it ought to be, but at FL300 it was 253C!

FL260 is where I hit the bug. Switched to a preset until I descended below that.

Thanks for the suggestion. The most recent detailed review I could find was by Frooglesim from August, 2021.

He actually likes it more than I do. Perhaps you could point us to more recent reviews that my cursory search may have missed. One thing that he does point out is that it's important to select "Enable Persistent Weather Load" on the settings page in order to have the weather load smoothly over time. The user guide isn't terribly clear on what these various options do, but I think that this is an important option to use. I wouldn't be surprised if it imposes a significant hit on CPU resources.

Tech fix is not available yet......

Good idea thanks for that.  I'm sure someone, myself included, will post when this is fixed, which I expect will be sooner than later as i'm sure this is just more evidence they are actively working on weather related issues currently.

No argument, but this was created well over a year ago, and there has been considerable opportunity for improvement. That's why I was looking for something recent. We know that Live Weather has also improved (haze notwithstanding), and in the end I would be surprised if the native weather was not uniformly the one I would chose. At this point, both Live Weather and Weather Force have their problems.

I just bought the software a week ago without going through the reviews, it's still the same.  This type of weather depiction was so far away from my radar as I hadn't seeing anything like this since 2004.  Once I loaded it up and flew across country, I immediately stopped the sim. That was it for me, wait until Asobo fixes the weather issue I thought.  Yes the fog issue isn't there and the other things you've pointed out but without modern weather depiction everything is voided out as far as I'm concerned.  I went and looked for my old faithful option of many years ActiveSky and they didn't even bother trying to compete with Asobo's default weather engine.  So as someone who's just purchased this software it is still the same as what's reviewed in the youtube video I posted above and it ain't pretty.

They have never been reputable for their WX generation products (great texture products though).  The P3D version never worked as it should either. I never understood the draw to this product in MSFS which, as you said, takes you back in time to the weather of the old sims of the past.  The same WX all around you and abrupt changes....uggh. I think this type of program should be reserved for all the people whining and insisting on real-time Metars to match WX outside their window or flying on Vatsim, etc and let Asobo go back to their beautiful model-based WX....
