December 27, 20214 yr After thinking about it a bit, I've never heard anyone actually say "Happy Holidays." It's only on seasonal greeting cards and such. I've seen it on cards as far back as I can remember, some time in the 50's and remember asking my mother what it was. Possibly it is to make a generic greeting card instead of individual ones for each religion and sell more cards that way? Hm. My Catholic coworker from the Pentagon who first told me the "felicitous Winter Solstice" greeting in the 70's had a Jewish wife. He used to joke about having a Star of David on their Hannukah bush. 😄 Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

With all of the "From both of us" and "To both of you" and "Across the Miles" and greetings to your local reverend and little pockets for containing cash gifts, there usually aren't many choices left. December 28, 20214 yr Happy Holidays isn't really some politically correct thing, it is Christmas and New Years, along with alternate holidays others celebrate. Merry Xmas + Happy New Year = happy holidays. To me, New Years has almost the same importance, even if it isn't a religious holiday. There's this idea that Christmas is somehow being pushed aside, but that's really not true at all. We've been bombarded with Christmas since November 1st. If you stay up late enough Halloween night, you can see the switch get flipped, then it is months straight of it. Christmas songs are blared in every public space. I'm happy to celebrate Christmas... on Christmas. December 24-25. Not January 12th or November 19th. If there was any more Christmas in America, it would be celebrated every day except for July 4th. Sometimes, less can be better sometimes. It really isn't about the average person, but the massive corporate assault we're subject to each year around this time. I don't mind people with lights on, it is really the few that take things over the top that kind of make it less special, and mostly all the corporate stuff. After 2+ months of watching the same 3 Christmas commercials over and over and over it just gets old. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
December 28, 20214 yr But the holiday season is about the only time you get see old Christmas movies like White Christmas and Christmas in Connecticut and a host of others. They make up for the commercials. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
