December 25, 20214 yr So I understand, holiday is derived from holy day and so because of the number of religions in the US happy holidays is said to avoid specifically referring the Christianity. Do you all do that in the US, in all states? Or do some of you say merry Christmas? There are a number of religions in the UK these days but its still Merry Christmas. Is it more to do with tradition? Edited December 25, 20214 yr by martin-w
December 25, 20214 yr This has become yet another political point in the US. This is just how ridiculous things have gotten. Enough of that. I personally don't care which form is used as long as it is sincere. It's the thought that counts. I say Merry Christmas because I have for as long as I can remember. Merry Christmas! Bill W.
December 25, 20214 yr Essentially either one. Whatever happens to come out of my mouth at any given time.... I'm probably going to just start saying "Meow". We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. December 25, 20214 yr Merry Christmas. Feliz Navidad. Joyeau Noel. Christmas Greetings. Hapy Holidays. etc-etc-etc. They all work for me. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
December 25, 20214 yr I tend to say Merry Christmas because my family celebrated Christmas as I was growing up. But my grandmother's best friend was Jewish and they didn't celebrate Christmas. My grandmother's best friend was my 'Aunt Rose' (not actually related). I tend to say Merry Christmas but I hope I'm not being offensive when I say it. I never know. P.S.: if we let them politicize everything then sooner or later we won't be able to talk about anything. | Dave | I've been around for most of my life. December 25, 20214 yr I hope I don't live long enough to the point where it's restricted to "Happy or Merry Whatever." Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.

December 25, 20214 yr I have far more important concerns in life than what one wants to call something.

December 25, 20214 yr It seems to me you should freely use your preferred greeting, such as Merry Christmas, and the other person should freely respond using their preferred greeting, such as Happy Holidays, and neither of you should be taking offence. I was pleased to see my greeting "Happy Winter Solstice" was received somewhat favourably on December 21. I suppose I should now say "Happy Yuletide" or something. Dugald Walker
