I would really like to know if anything at all has been done. My vote is NO. Weather changes all the time, and live weather is pretty tough to bug report and fix because of this.

Yes agreed - I think as others have noted, it may be in relation to how the engine is interpreting / misinterpreting specific reading and conditions (and could perhaps be tweaked on the server side).
January 25, 20224 yr I'm sure I'm sounding like a stuck record but I'm very interested to know if anyone's seen any cloud types other than cumuloforms in SU7 Live Weather? I used to see stratus quite well depicted but haven't seen any since the update in any part of the world. i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
January 25, 20224 yr Quote I'm sure I'm sounding like a stuck record but I'm very interested to know if anyone's seen any cloud types other than cumuloforms in SU7 Live Weather? This is a common issue. You won't find any stratus or other types of clouds in the sim at the moment. Overcast conditions either. And we don't even know if SU8 will bring any change to the current state of a big mess the live weather is as it seems that not that many simmers are really interested in it...

I´m very interested about tomorrow´s Q&A if they have something new about this to tell us. It´s the second most voted question, I too voted about this. So I would assume that they got something to say about this. Tapani Österberg
January 25, 20224 yr I also upvoted this issue. I hope it will be addressed at some point as it is a serious immersion killer. I'm only afraid that just because there are so many problems with the weather engine at the moment it might take a while to get it fixed, especially that not every simmer seems to treat it as priority. At least this is what I've observed browsing through many threads devoted to it on MSFS forums.

Have the performance issues been addressed? I ask because it's been a year and a half and MSFS default live weather is still only working part time. MSFS

Can't relate in the slightest to this comment--except for a brief period when we had extreme temps over X altitude, and the occasional offline status which I have discovered resolves itself within a few minutes when it happens, on the whole it's nearly always working. Yes, I usually have performance issues during an update (loss of FPS for a few seconds). What works best for me >> I set update to 20 minutes, then START flight using REX. Once I am at cruise altitude (above all ceilings), I switch to MSFS Live Wx (this avoids any REX update and any loss of FPS). Quote

Have you noticed missing clouds when you check metar or ATIS? Sometimes clouds are missing when I load the sim. This is an issue that's been around since day one. MSFS

This is an issue that's been around since day one. Yes I've noticed a mismatch sometimes between METAR and local conditions as portrayed at that moment in time. Also I've had I think 3 instances now in the last 2-3 weeks or so when I launched to the gate that LW hasn't active, so this is about 3x out of say 30 flights. In the past few other times this happened I would switch to Presets. Recently I discovered, at least with these last 3 instances, where in a just few minutes LW spontaneously becomes active. My belief is that MS/A is hardly 'done' with this, and so for me the idea of chasing this moving target with various interim solutions, be they for example REX or AIG is not for me. In fact my belief is that the more interim solutions that appear ultimately takes the pressure off MS/A to complete the package in a more timely fashion. At least this is what I've observed browsing through many threads devoted to it on MSFS forums. Considering REX WeatherForce is capable of producing realistic skies and different cloud types, the MSFS weather engine itself is probably not as broke as we might think. It looks like something is going wrong between the data and implementation. REX shows each cloud level in a realistic way, where Live Weather either misses a level out completely, or just plain gets the cloud type wrong. I still always start off with Live weather because of the ability to create haze and the fact there are hardly any transitions. However, I am switching to REX more and more often for the realism of the sky - I get less immersion loss by having the transitions rather than an incorrect or cartoony sky. Really looking forward to see how Live weather improves this year.
