January 10, 20224 yr Is it just me, or have the clouds improved since the last update? My impression is that they have softer edges now and look less like grainy cauliflower than they did previously. https://www.mediafire.com/view/dz3buh31pti9cej/BoeingDriverSignature.jpg/file

January 10, 20224 yr Be invited to a rather lively discussion regarding the weather simulation at the official forum, for example this topic https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/sim-now-seems-incapable-of-rendering-overcast-using-live-weather/473591, but also several more. Whether the clouds are smooth enough or sometimes grainy is the least of the problem with the weather which has gone 20 years back in time at the SU7 update.
January 10, 20224 yr The clouds certainly look better due to one thing, the issue causing the colour banding that was accidentally introduced during SU5 has been found and fixed. The rest I think is placebo, and all looks the same to me. They certainly haven't mentioned any further fixes or improvements, and if they did I think they would want to shout it from the rooftops. The clouds in MSFS are a conundrum. They can look absolutely beautiful under certain lighting conditions, and at other times, on ultra settings, they can look like lumpy cauliflower shaped grey ash clouds that would normally come from a volcano. How they fix that, I don't know. Certainly DCS, P3D, and Xplane are catching up, and have their own implementations of particle based cloud systems now. The recent changes to DCS clouds look good, and it will be interesting to see what the new Xplane 12 clouds look like in the next few months. They are all slightly different implementations of the same system I believe, so hopefully Asobo can revisit them at some stage and show them some love! The fog / mist effects are there now at least, and I hope for decent cirrus in the year ahead. Edited January 10, 20224 yr by bobcat999 Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). January 10, 20224 yr I have not noticed an overall difference. For me it is difficult to determine any overall change as the clouds and cloud qualities tend to change from flight to flight and had done so since before updates. So it becomes a question of perceived vs real change. January 10, 20224 yr Some of the cloud types look great and I think always have...certain other renditions of clouds look very grainy and sponge-like. Hit or miss for me....but I don't think the update did anything different to the general cloud appearance. January 11, 20224 yr Nope, nothing has changed. The clouds have always been a mixed bag in this sim. From the release. They can be extremely nice and realistic, bringing up superb cloudscapes but they can also be godawful, ashen, cauliflower-like. And if I don’t see clouds hugging the ground after the fix, the CN are still pretty low in altitude for my taste.
