New Active Sky 8045

Featured Replies

I haven't tried the new open beta 8045 yet but the change log list some interesting new things.

Changelog: Update – January 10, 2021

– [01/10/22] Added experimental new EA-mode (volumetric or legacy clouds) In-Cloud visibility reduction and Cloud Motion Effect for lower overcast/broken clouds (controlled by existing user options) – works for ceiling clouds below 5000ft AGL only

– [01/10/22] Adjusted cumulus cloud thickness when using Volumetric Clouds (with EA mode) to be thinner (max 15000ft) to prevent excessively dark daytime skies below these clouds

– [01/10/22] Adjusted cumulonimbus cloud thickness when using Volumetric Clouds (with EA mode) to be thinner (max 20000ft) to prevent excessively dark daytime skies below these clouds

NOTE: Volumetric Clouds depiction (with EA mode) effectively renders the cloud thickness much higher, anywhere from 30 to 100% higher than as configured, so the reduction of thickness parameters should not result in a visual reduction of height of thunderstorm clouds

– [01/10/22] – Adjusted stratus cloud thickness when using Volumetric Clouds (with EA mode) to be thinner (max 3000ft) to prevent excessively dark daytime skies below stratus layers

– [01/10/22] Fixed EA visibility issue where visibility could be rendered too high

– [01/10/22] Updated options descriptions and documentation for updated EA mode and volumetric cloud mode considerations (some options previously hidden have been unhidden as they are now available in EA mode depending on volumetric clouds option)

This looks cool, thanks for heads up!

But I have to say after one testflight I will stay on Legacy Clouds.

The transition with vol. Clouds is terrible, the whole flight I got overcast clouds, suddenly there were no clouds over Frankfurt and beautiful weather altough the METAR is telling something different and few moments later the clouds starts to create back.

Another point is that there a clouds where no clouds has to be. My tesflight crosses my homebase and actually we do not have any clouds here - sunny morning. With legacy cloud the weather situation was right, with vol. clouds I got an overcast.

Sounds like you may need to check that you have a flight plan loaded.  That kind of transition pattern should not happen if you do.  If you don’t, and another weather station has differing data to your destination, you get the transition as you fly over or closer to that other station.  In any case, many users prefer the legacy clouds and that does have benefits in many situations such as with variable theme weather depiction.

Hey Damian,

thanks but I checked that I have a flightplan loaded but I have to say that I loaded a previous one (because there was an issue with the actual one but nevermind) but with the exactly route. Maybe that is the problem but yes you are right the benefits with legacy clouds are insane in my opinion

Does it apply to 5.2HF1 as well OR 5.3HF1 and above only?

Should i delete the volumemetricclouds.cfg btw?

This should always be cleared out with a new P3D update that has EA/Volclouds changes (most do lately), the DeleteGeneratedFiles script is really the best way to do this if you can afford the time to re-do your settings, to make sure all configurations are proper per the new version.

Both.  There are quite a few 5.3-specific changes, but also many affecting all versions.  To clarify (the changelog is a bit ambiguous here, will be corrected), the new in-cloud vis reduction and CME for EA mode is specific to 5.3+.  The other changes not showing 5.3+ relevance work for all versions.

Extremely happy with Active Sky adapting better and better to EA.  HIFi is a superb company, and they are indeed listening to us on this forum. I'm really pleased with 8045 and the clouds look excellent to me.  Using Active Sky and Cloud Art.  The days of checkerboard clouds and cloud cloning are OVER...at least they are on my system with the latest advances in Active Sky and P3d 5.3HF2.

I have nothing to complain about here, so you all have a nice day!

I’m curious what P3D settings are you using for EA and Volumetric Clouds in conjunction with ASP3D and ASCA. Also any particular settings in ASP3D you find useful in creating the results you like.

Thanks in advance

Sure.  I'm running Windows 11 and I use a 1080ti card, with resolution set to 3840x2160. My settings in P3d are as follows:

  • 8xMSAA
  • 4096x4096 texture resolution
  • FXAA and VSync OFF
  • Terrain Settings  -  ALL full right
  • Scenery Objects  - ALL full right except Autogen Draw Distance (High) and Vegetation Density (Normal)
  • EA on with God's Rays.
  • Volumetric Clouds  OFF

Active Sky is all default with no specific changes.  ASCA (Cloud Art) is set to Full Dynamics.

That's it!  Nothing special.  I'm using a Jetline Systems Computer and a 4K LG 32" monitor

But are you no longer using ASCA?

From my understanding you use EA volumetric clouds?

He wrote VolumetricClouds OFF. So he is using 2d sprite models from ASCA. But he uses the new P3D EA Lighting (Atmosphere)

I also have 2 questions

1. When should you start the AS. When the SIm is ready or before.
2. Which settings are to be set with VC Clouds in order to get the best display.

Many thanks to the AS team. You really care about us
