P3Dv5.3...WOW!

I can't blame them if the market for P3D products crashed overnight. Nor when it's apparently quicker and easier to build scenery in MSFS (something LM really need to address).

With abundant high quality freeware, less opportunity now to cash-in with low effort ports, and returning numbers of simmers to P3D, we can only hope that some of the better quality developers continue/return to making P3D stuff for us.

Yes, the comment that I have highlighted in bold is key. Gary Summons (UK2000) has given up developing P3D versions of his airports, and part of the reason for this is that it is (apparently) so much easier for him to create airport scenery products for MSFS. Whilst I understand the reasons for his decision, it is very frustrating for someone like me who is sticking with P3Dv4 for the moment. I was really looking forward to more HD versions of his airports in P3D, as they are a significant improvement over the Xtreme versions (although the lack of custom runway lighting in Isle of Man 2021 HD is a big disappointment). I really wanted to see detailed versions of Newquay and Teesside International in P3D, and also improved versions of Gatwick, Manchester and Edinburgh. Unless LM do something extraordinary with P3Dv6, it looks like I only have one option.....and I am not too keen to go down that rocky road at the moment.

@Christopher LowI'll be honest though.  Developers like UK2000 were pretty far behind even adapting to the features we currently have in p3d.  So they were probably going to fade away anyway.  I understand the frustration.  Regarding only having one option.  I disagree.  You have atleast 3.  P3D (what it is today and tomorrow), Xplane 12 (soon to be released), MSFS.  Many of us who predominantly fly airliners will be selecting option 1 or 2.  Or so it seems.

I used your MOD for OZON now several hours (20+) on flying and noticed that it is great. Do you have any idea if "fog" layer blending is done via shaders too? This looks awful ugly in P3D. Especially at night the blending between fog and upper clear sky is way to "hard" and does not blend very softly

Yes, fog blending is done with the shaders as well, however I don't understand the issue you mentioned with the fog. Could you send a screenshot?

PC specs: i5-12400F, RTX 3070 Ti and 32 GB of RAM.

Simulators I'm using: X-Plane 12, Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and FlightGear.

@BiologicalNanobot I have done some long testings and here are the links to all fotos and Settings

Some Videos as well (Notam: THIS IS NOT P3D Beta but the final released product 5.3.15.28131

Summarized issues:

  • Shimmering fog
  • Harsh Line Fog Sky not blending well with clouds and sky (missing a smooth transition)
  • Daytime fog: Clouds layer, completely covered by Fog is seen as above the fog, when flying ABOVE foglayer
  • Nighttime fog: Cloud layer, completely covered by fog is seen all the time, regardless if flying above or in the foglayer self
  • Bownish color of fog at dawn and dusk, even at daytimes to brown
  • Nighttime fog: Looking downwards or upwards shows a hole in the fog, even when the layer is 10000 Feet thick and has less then 3 miles visibility

There is a lot of work to do. But the horrible one is the brown color, whole in foglayer at night and harsh line

II would love to get some help from someone with knowledge to parse it onto LM, like I did with the ozon MOD.

Thanks a lot!

Marcus

While you guys are wringing your hands over older sims being forgotten by payware developers you are forgetting all the freeware developers who are still producing for older sims not to mention older payware sceneries and aircraft that do work with newer simulators excluding, of course, MSFS.  For instance, My Traffic is working well in P3Dv5.3 including the ai military traffic and many military airbases like the SDB Series for FSX.

17 new sceneries for FS2004 California Classics so far this month.

On Flightsim.com 20 new files for FS2004 so far this month; 25 new files for FSX so far this month; 20 new files for P3D so far this month.

I didn't check the AVSIM file library yet nor those of Military AI Works, Sim Outhouse, Rikooo, Simviation and at least a dozen other freeware outlets that cater to the older simulators.

FS2004, FSX might be getting long in tooth but they are far from dead.

And freeware sceneries and airplanes for X-Plane are still very much alive.

And while P3D is not the new shiny object anymore it is still a viable modern simulator because it was made for training, not gaming.  And since it is primarily a training sim for commercial and military customers they are not going to let it fall by the wayside because a new simulator like MSFS for kids with Xbox has arrived on the scene.

OK you MSFS guys, take you best shots.

You make very good points above! And...oh yea they will come for you! LOL!! One of the problems that we face is that for what ever reason, So many folks seem to feel that unless there is something new every couple of days then the interest in the hobby of flight sim is dead or dying. I happen to believe that there is a fairly active group of users out there busy flying around and have no time for wishing and wanting. It is sad but the MS marketing guys and a few Gaming Content developers over in France have been able to shift the attention of a lot of folks from flying and systems to pretty pictures. You don't have to be a brain surgeon to figure out that the whole mess was designed to move as many people as possible toward the x-box thingy. It is just what we have to live with at the moment I am afraid. Want proof? Just have a look over in the MS2020 forum and count how many post you see something like "OH boy! a new release. I sure hope this one does not wipe out my whole system like the release last week!!" and yet......here they go again with a mega ton of o's and 1's being downloaded. Some times it is just pure folly. LOL

My A2A V35B works great in P3d with my Honeycomb Alpha/Bravo and MFG pedals. I am a happy camper and if it never gets any better then I can live with that just fine. I am much more satisfied when I hit that final approach speed by the book and a smooth touchdown than looking out the window and seeing the Kentucky Fried Chicken building down the road.

I did almost all of my flying in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico.  The chances that you pick that rare day when it is foggy is remote.  Weather here means thunderstorms for the most part so we GA pilots just don't go up.   A low layer of stratus and two or three days of rain are almost unheard of.

So I am not bothered by the TruSky and cloud renditions and rain and weather.  I'm not dismissing it as unimportant to almost everyone else, it's just not important to me because all my flying is done on June 30th at 10:00AM with a layer of 3.8 cirrus at 30,000 to 42,000 feet just to give the sky some texture.

In P3Dv5 I was concerned about the haze even though I had enhanced atmospherics unchecked.  But I have a bit more visibility in v6.  I am satisfied with it now although I wish it could be turned completely off because where I live and mostly fly we have 100 mile+ visibility almost every day.  If I am driving to WalMart I can clearly see Capitan Peak 60 miles away and usually see the top of Sierra Blanca (over 12,000  feet high) 100 miles away.

The only problem I've noticed with the latest EA is my logbook is not recording night and instrument time.  The total flight time is correct.

I have to amend my previous post about haze.  I have been flying around the San Francisco Bay Area and with atmospherics uncheck and there still is haze.  I had not flown in the Roswell area until this morning.  And I have to say in New Mexico the haze is minimal and I do have 100 mile visibility.  The haze is normal in urban areas and lower altitudes and seems reasonable  in the Bay Area.  I think it is just about right now.

Greetings fellow simmers,

Unlike many of you who post here and elsewhere, such as the FB P3D forums, I hardly ever fly a jetliner. My interest has been more toward the DC3 as well as bush piloting via Return to Misty Moorings.

However, I have been an avid reader of this thread, especially as it applies to shaders, sky and cloud textures, etc.

Rarely do I fly at the jetliner altitudes. But, today, I did some experimenting with the TDS 737 freeware. I took off from KJAC  and set a heading for 110, climbing to 39000 feet. My software relevant to this post includes P3D V5.3 HF1, AS 8045, ASCA, and Envshade. Within P3D, I have set EA, and VC. I have turned of VSYNC, and set my fps at 37, which is just about half my monitor's 75 hz refresh rate. i have mostly default settings with NVC, with the exception of the VSYNC setting to 1/2 adaptive. My GPU is the Nvidia 1660ti with 6 gigs of ram, 5.1 of which I useable. My flight VRAM usually hovers around 3 =/-.

Here are a few screen shots, and I am very happy with the results

Here are a few screen shots, and to be honest, I am very pleased with the coloration, cloud depth, etc.

With all those squares displaying in your sim, I think you may need to run 'Verify Files' in Orbx Central on all the landclass products (OLC continents and/or FTX regions) that you have.
I don't remember the regions looking that much like a patchwork quilt, but perhaps I've misremembered (I tend to only fly in TrueEarth and lots of other photoreal aerial imagery areas) and someone else can chime in.

Nonetheless, I'm glad that you're very happy with the results.

I, too, am very happy with P3D when I'm flying in this sort of scene:

Interesting point about the ground textures, I had not noticed it before...I do have ORBX BASE AND NALC....I'll check at next opportunity. Thanks..

If you've done P3D V5.3.x update, then you'll need to reset your Terrain.cfg per Orbx procedure (or anything else that updates this file).

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks Rob,  that is one step which I think I missed.
