May 8, 200719 yr I installed Visual C++ which solved the problem with the side-by-side configuration file. Now I am very confused! When I start FSX under VISTA I get a message that the version of Direct X I am running (10 because it is VISTA) is not compatible with FSX. The message then directs me to download DX 9 from Microsoft.I have a GeForce 8800 GTS and the latest drivers installed. Does FSX run under DX10/VISTA??I see lots of comments about DX10 performance so I assumed that the retail version of FSX Deluxe would use DX10. Do I need to wait for the SP1 update? May 8, 200719 yr That's definitely an odd problem.FSX runs under DX9, even in Vista, until the DX10 patch comes out later this year.Unless if the DX9 components in your Vista install are damaged, I can't imagine what the problem would be. I'd suggest reinstalling DX9 from the MS website, as it suggested.
May 8, 200719 yr The DX10 FSX update won't be out till this fall. As it stands now, FSX only uses DX9. Any posts you may have seen regarding DX10 performance have usually been speculation as to what we may expect when the DX10 update is released.
May 8, 200719 yr I just downloaded DX9 from the microsoft web site. When I try to install DX9c I receive a message that the current version of DirectX is newer than the version you have installed. The installer then exits and will not continue. So how, under VISTA, do I remove DX10 and force DX9c to install? May 8, 200719 yr Vista DX10 is compatible with FSX, it just regresses to FS9 when running. I think you have incorrectly installed (or not installed) FSX under Vista.

May 8, 200719 yr You can't uninstall DX10. Also, Vista already contains DX9 (DX9L) which is the reason DX9c won't install. I think the problem lies with the 8800 drivers, not with Vista. I'd research the driver issue(s) first.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. May 8, 200719 yr >just uninstall dx10, do a registry clean, reboot and than>install dx9c.OMG I am just going to pretend that I didn't read this. DX10 is built into vista and there is no removing it. Like others have said already, it just reverts to the vista version of DX9 when it runs DX9 games. Something is either awry with your OS install or FSX.________________________________________________________________________________________________Intel D975XBX2 'Bad Axe 2' | Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.20Ghz | 2 GB Super Talent DDR2 800 | Big Typhoon VX | eVGA 8800GTS @ 565/900 | Seagate 2x320GB SATA RAID-0 | OCZ GameXStream 700W | Creative X-Fi | Silverstone TJ-09BW | Matrox Triplehead Setup
May 9, 200719 yr Vista uses DX9.0L, a different version of DirectX 9 strictly for Vista as it uses a completely new driver model. Bernard
May 9, 200719 yr HOW do I reinstall FSX under VISTA and still be able to run it under WIN/XP??FSX is installed on Drive E which is Raid 0 dedicated to just game software and the drive is available to XP and VISTA. Win/SP is installed on Drive CVISTA is installed on Drive GWhen I boot to either WIN/XP or VISTA I can still see everything on Drives C, E, F, G. If I reinstall FSX under VISTA what does it do to the registery entries for WIN/XP? Will I still be able to boot to WIN/XP and run FSX? May 9, 200719 yr When I run Dxdiag I see DirectX Version: DirectX 10Why do you think there is an automatic regression to DX9 under VISTA/FSX? May 9, 200719 yr Well that's odd, because Nero wouldn't install in Vista without installing DirectX 9.0 and after downloading the latest v9 from MS website the other day, Nero installed fine. Nero then installed and FS9 and FSX both startup just fine. This was the recommened resolution from a Nero forum. When I run dxdiag, it continues to say DirectX v10. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
May 9, 200719 yr >When I run Dxdiag I see DirectX Version: DirectX 10>>Why do you think there is an automatic regression to DX9 under>VISTA/FSX?Because that's what FSX does, at least until the DX10 update is out.I agree with whoever said there is something wrong with either your OS install, your FSX install, or your drivers for the 8800 card.I'd target the easiest thing first, which is your driver install, and then see if that solves it.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2310 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 2.5-3-3-8 (1T), WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian case Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
