May 16, 200719 yr Commercial Member Before you post a thread about how much SP1 sucks, MS/ACES "is a joke" etc - try the following:1. Remove FSX from Add/Remove Programs (this will take a long time just be patient)2. Manually delete the C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFSX folder (don't touch the FS9 one if you have that installed!)Also remove these foldersDocuments and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataMicrosoftFSXDocuments and Settingsyour user nameApplication DataMicrosoftFSXPhil recommends saving Logbook.bin & GrantedRewards.bin if you don't want to start over on flight time and mission rewards.3. I would defrag now.4. Install FSX clean from the DVD.5. Run FSX. *THIS IS IMPORTANT* in my experience - it needs to create the different cfg files and stuff that happen on first run.6. Install the VS 2005 redistributable if you haven't already.7. Install SP1.8. Reboot and defrag.Run the sim and you should see big performance gains on multi-core machines with good video cards. It is also VERY IMPORTANT that you have up to date drivers for everything - chipset, CPU, video, sound, etc. I'll be revising my FSX tweak guide available on our PMDG Ops site soon as many of these tweaks don't apply anymore. May 16, 200719 yr Can we add to this that a decent defrag program helps...I use DiskTrix....love it...speeds up loading a bunch...I hear Diskkeeper works well too | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
May 16, 200719 yr Commercial Member Yeah, any commercial defrag is better than the default. I personally use Raxco Perfect Disk 8. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com

May 16, 200719 yr Author I dont think the SP1 patch adds Phil Taylors config tweaks for dual core etc(at least I did not see them). You get a substantial increase without them but to get multiple (dual in my case) core support you have to use:(JOBSCHEDULER)AffinityMask=3: Regards Howard H D Isaacs
May 16, 200719 yr Hi RyanSorry for my ignorance, but what is VS 2005 ??RegardsHenrik KorningGreenland
May 16, 200719 yr Excuse me for my ignorance, but where does the (Jobscheduler) section go? FSX.cfg?Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180 Tom Perry
May 16, 200719 yr Author I put it in the fsx.config - note square brackets. My setting is for dual core. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
May 16, 200719 yr Commercial Member Howard-FSX detects BY DEFAULT that you have a dual core processor so this tweak is not going to make a difference in your case. It's mostly used when you want to set the affinity mask to something other than the number of cores set in your machine already (i.e. if I have a quad core and want to be using VS 2005 simultaneously for debugging, I'll only allow FSX three of the four cores, so VS can get the fourth). May 16, 200719 yr But according to the System's requirements on the download page, it doesn't mention any version of Vista. Only XP and older, so for the moment, I'm going to assume this isn't needed on any flavor of Vista. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
May 16, 200719 yr Commercial Member Guys,I'm almost positive that Jobscheduler stuff is set automatically if it's not in the CFG. FSX is definitely using both cores on my machine without it in there... Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
