I purchased MSFS2020 when it first came out and after about a week of getting ticked off I uninstalled it and went about my business. In Jan this year I saw some articles of the improvements and decided to give it another go. I was "Blown Away!" with the changes and graphics. Yesterday I started a flight at a local airport next to where I live, I put everything in the sim to real world conditions including freezing rain, as I was taxiing I noticed that it was harder to track down the taxiway.  Just before take-off I noticed a distortion on the corner of my windscreen, I took off, got about 2000 feet and went into an uncontrolled left turn, all the while my windscreen was getting harder to see out of and then I crashed! It was cool, why you ask? I am a retired Army Pilot/Commercial Pilot and I have a tendency to apply RW to Sim World and have to make concessions, to me this was a sign that MSFS2020 is coming into its own!

My only major gripes now are:

>I wish they would call this MF20 or FS20 or even FSXX the MSFS 2020 just gets tedious.

>Make it easier to install add-ons.

That is it for now, i still have more to learn before I can make any more comments.

they just call it MSFS without any year reference, makes sense as 2020 sounds outdated in 2022 already and as you mentioned the sim is constantly evolving anyway. glad you came back and like it. makes 2

Glad you like it. I find the addon install very simple. Extract, drag and drop into the folder. However, there are various addon managers as well you can download.

I think it's never been easier to install addons compared to previous versions. All you have to do is drag a folder to a folder and voila! I do share your excitement with this sim, however! I came from FSX and continue to be blown away by this sim. Also, the free FBWA320 keeps getting better and better.

I came from P3D,and MSFS is like moving into the future. It is fantastic.

It can't get no easier than dropping an unzipped folder in the 'Community' folder or let Flight Simulator do it when you buy an add-on from the Marketplace, Orbx, or Contrail... 🤪😶

In FSX certain addons required....

flakey registry entry methods

tricky scenery priority placement and conflicts

flakey addon module.xml entries and conflicts

Certain addons required an obstacle course of service pack 1& 2 components in whatever install order the sim was in the mood for.

A couple of wrong moves could completely destroy your dll.xmls and scenery priority.

So imagine installing multiple shiny new planes and scenery addons and installing them and then your fsx install catches an attitude and just refuses to load, welp time to backtrack what last addon install conflicted with what.

By then you are seriously considering

So yea I'm pretty thankful for MSFS's simplistic drag and drop community folder addon method...WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY!!!

It usually happens that way with MS stuff so it might take 10 years. 🤪

At first I thought addon linker an unnecessary complication. But to stay organized and know what you have in and what you have out it is a lifesaver. Because with two windows side by side you know what every folder in Communities is. You know if its scenery  or a plane or a dependency. If its scenery you know if its France or Brazil (assuming you create organized subfolders under Scenery for France and Brazil etc. in the Community Addons folder).

Communities folder tells you what pieces are in the sim and Community Addons folder tells you what each piece is. And with one click you change them back and forth. In the case of a system crash your backed up folders help you get your mods all back in minutes instead of days.

I am definitely in the minority but I just call it MFS because Microsoft is one word 😛

Another purpose of Addon Linker is to cut down on load time.  If you have Heathrow scenery and say, Paris scenery, and you plan to fly only in Florida for this session, you can quickly disable your European sceneries.
