True, Mark; it even amazed me: In Colombia I seldom had dinner after 8 pm. Here I seldom have dinner before 8 pm! Looks like Argentines simply refuse to dine before sunset. Something to watch for in the US if the bill is approved.

I agree with that, Mark!  On a 6 week trip to Southern France and a house rental, we would have "Happy hour" around 5:30 PM.  A glass of wine and maybe cheese and crackers.  Started cooking dinner around 8:45-9:00 PM and finish around 10:30.  Do the dishes then hop into bed!  UGH! That made for many restless nights!

Back on subject.....as a kid I always loved the Spring forward because it meant 2 things.   School in on the downhill side and the extra couple of hours to play after dinner.  The downside was the Winter time change where it started getting dark around 5;30 PM.

Early history[edit]

British Summer Time was first established by the Summer Time Act 1916, after a campaign by builder William Willett. His original proposal was to move the clocks forward by 80 minutes, in 20-minute weekly steps on Sundays in April and by the reverse procedure in September.[7] In 1916, BST began on 21 May and ended on 1 October.[8] Willett never lived to see his idea implemented, having died in early 1915.

Yikes!! Two hours proposed! 😧

Campaigners, including the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and environmental campaigners 10:10, have made recommendations that British Summer Time be maintained during the winter months, and that a "double summertime" be applied to the current British Summer Time period, putting the UK one hour ahead of GMT during winter, and two hours ahead during summer. This proposal is referred to as "Single/Double Summer Time" (SDST), and would effectively mean the UK adopting the same time zone as European countries such as France, Germany, and mainland Spain (Central European Time and Central European Summer Time).

RoSPA has suggested that this would reduce the number of accidents over this period as a result of the lighter evenings. RoSPA have called for the 1968–71 trial to be repeated with modern evaluation methods.[18]

The European Parliament voted to scrap the clock changing shenanigans back in 2019. But of course, UK is no longer part of the EU, so I've no idea what will ultimately happen here.

What I do know is that the clock switching usually messes up my sleep and I would be happy top see it gone.

You don`t live in Scotland then less daylight in winter and Shetlands would see very little daylight hours, and Norway that`s another story land of the midnight sun will be land of the darkness also,

We seemed to get on okay before it was introduced, but yes, I guess I do appreciate the increase in daylight hours. Being a bad sleeper though the change in the clocks does mess me up.

You do know Scotland is against changing but If they get independence they can stay with daylight saving.

So what? 🙂

I think we should just get ride of clocks altogether and when the sun comes up we know that its time to get up and go outside and throw bananas and poop at the people on the other side of the street and when the sun goes down its time to go back to bed.

Stability and more sunshine is what I want.  Too little sunshine can be very depressing for some and fictitious time changes are hard to deal with.

I'll bet its not easy for a company like MS to have a worldwide operating system that attempts to always know what time it is when twice a year you have to either skip an hour or repeat an hour.  It's like the recent cold snap we had where at first the forecast said it would get down to freezing for only two hours and then the next time I checked it had increased to three hours of freezing but then I remembered the time change.  How does AI and forecasting deal with such human nonsense?

Fair point, most of us are deficient in Vit D due to lack of sunshine, even those in sunny countries apparently.

I remember during the Arab oil embargo of 1973, when I was in high school, when a time change came, they adjusted it by 2 hrs. instead of 1, so when I went to school at 8:00 AM, it was still pitch black and freezing, definitely felt weird.

CORRECTION:  I checked if my memory was correct on this, and found out what actually happened was that in January of 1974, the U.S. switched back to Daylight Savings Time with the intention of saving energy due to the oil embargo:
