Good news....

Please moderators, this is should not be political.

The US Senate has just passed a bill making Daylight Savings Time permanent.  No more biannual resetting all you clocks and watches.  If the House goes along and the president signs it it will become law.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

For now, I see nothing wrong!  We will have to see how it progresses!

I wonder if Canada will follow if this passes. More problematic here with daylight starting at 9 am in winter.

Especially for Saskatchewan which is already on standard time all year round. I think that's more sensible than daylight saving time all year round.

I would actually prefer that we keep standard time permanent instead of daylight savings time.

This will be more of a problem for the northern states as it will be dark until 0900-0930 in the winter.  Even in Atlanta sunrise wouldn't be until 0840.

Either way is fine with me.  Pick one and stick with it.

I agree, pick one and stick with it, but I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet.  It must pass the House of Representatives and then it must be signed by the president.  Lots of hurdles for this proposal to jump through before it becomes a law.

The European Parliament voted to scrap the clock changing shenanigans back in 2019. But of course, UK is no longer part of the EU, so I've no idea what will ultimately happen here.

What I do know is that the clock switching usually messes up my sleep and I would be happy top see it gone.

Standard it terrible in summer, we get such a short summer every minute of light is needed at night.  Plus so many sports etc. happening in the evenings outdoors in summer.  Honestly for Canada the time change probably makes the most sense.  I don't think it will matter much if Canada stays on a time change and the US goes their own way.

The EU did indeed vote for it, but they still haven't ratified it, and so as it stands they like the rest of us will still skip 1 hour forward on the 27th

Good for you.
The annual clock adjusting is a right pain over in the UK.
The British government did experiment with making the 1 hr advance permanent in the late 60's but reverted back to annual adjustments in the early 70's. I seem to remember some very dark mornings going to school.

Here in Argentina we've been living in a permanent DST since 2009 at least. Based on our longitude (currently I'm at 31.3860ºS 64.1247ºW), we should be at UTC-4, but we're at UTC-3 the whole year. Even some parts should be at UTC-5!

The only thing I dislike is reporting to work before 8 am in winter, in total darkness. Being raised in Colombia, where sunrise is always at 6 am (plus/minus 20 minutes), it hurts hahaha. But I prefer having a permanent hour instead of a twice-a-year clock adjusting. Too much room for error.
