Rolling Cache

Featured Replies

Im just curios to know how many people use rolling chache in MSFS 2020, and if there is actually a benefit to using it seems to be a grey area this one.

I use a 16GB rolling cache. Comcast in eastern Tennessee has a data cap and I believe this cache helps me keep under the limit. At least I've stopped receiving the "you've used 75% of your data" messages now. I also have 3 1TB SSDs so space is not a problem.

Never use it, don't need it.

Alienware Aurora R11, 32 GB ram, Intel i7-10700F, GeForce RTX 2080 Super, Ultra graphics settings

As above, never used it since moving to FTTP, also don't see any morphing since either.

AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3d, MSI X570 Pro, 32 gb DDR4 3600 ram, Gigabyte 6800 16gb GPU, 1x 2tb Samsung  NvMe , 1x 2tb Sabrent NvME, 1x Crucial 4tb Nvme M2 Drive

Never use it. I fly to different areas on every flight.

Have run for extended periods with and without a rolling cache and caches of different sizes.  I've noticed little if any difference and chose to run without a cache as a result.

Where a cache may help is for those with slower internet connections and data caps. Maybe some lower end systems could benefit, but I've not seen any evidence of this.

I use it (Around 10gb). I see a benefit. I also make sure to delete and recreate the file after every major update however.

What benefit are you seeing?

The rolling cache is essential with a 10Mbps internet connection. (the joys of limited choice of rural ISP. We will update our technology any day now)

I use a 30GB cache. First flight over an area will show highly variable frame rate and stutters.

Second flight will be much more consistent frame rate and network monitor shows no internet access.

Substantially less frametime spikes (stutters).

I have a decent internet connection and my PC specs are below. The typical reported ping to MS servers is 36 to 44ms. I have tried it with and without.. Ill keep it on to at least ensure there is a data buffer while flying and im not at the mercy of any transfer fluctuations mid flight ..which would probably result in ... you guessed it .. a frametime spike.

Starlink satellite Internet!  I get 250mbs with latency 20-50 milliseconds.   I have used it for a year with no problems at all.

I use a 100Gb RC and only to reduce total demand on our line, w/ multiple streaming devices sometimes competing with each other.

I have used it before but not using it now. I have a very fast internet connection, with only myself and one other person in the household, with no data cap, so for me, there were not many benefits of using it.

I can't see any benefit using it on my computer and internet connection.
