Fenix and performance

Even at 4K resolution though?

In most situations probably. Just don’t expect to maintain 30fps at EGLL with live traffic during rush hour. I don’t think any CPU can keep up with that.

The 30 FPS gang in full steam mode.

Does anyone know if I will get decent performance with the Fenix A320 with my system? I'm kind of hesitant about purchasing it due to fear that it will not perform well. I run the sim in 4K pretty much at ultra settings. Can anyone with similar system specs let me know their experiences so I can decide whether to buy it or not.

Your system is almost identical to mine, I'm running it at 3440x1440 widescreen. Most of my sim settings are on ultra, with a couple on high, and a couple turned off like bloom, dof and motion blur, I've also set my fps to 30 in the sim and it is really smooth.

Random question - one I should probably know - but I have a super beefy system and right now I'm VSYNC locked with FPS in the sim set to 60, but in reality it gives me 30 FPS. I want to see how far I can take the Fenix, so....

Question 1: Would I be able to lock it in the sim settings to 60FPS?

Question 2: Would I get smooth experience by trying to double that, or would the tiny micro-stutters make it less smooth at double the FPS and ruin the experience?

Thanks. I'm really a noob with this stuff and honestly have no idea how any of it works. For the record I have a Samsung 4K UHD-LED monitor that runs at 60 hertz. Not sure if that will make any difference, but I'd like to see what "greater than 30FPS" looks like with this plane.

1. Apparently v-sync in the sim is not the most efficient one. I’m using nVidia control panel to lock fps. In addition I have the fast v-sync option enabled in NCP.

2. I think you just have to try it out and see what works best for you; locked 30fps, locked 60, unlocked…

If you’re running fps unlocked and have a g-sync or freesync compatible monitor (or TV) it would make sense to turn those on.

Exactly my concern here. Since the item is non-refundable. I'm hesitant on buying it.

I compared the PMDG to the Fenix.
When I get 50 FPS in the PMDG (4K ultra Details) I get around 40 in the Fenix in the exact same scenario.

You feel that the Fenix is heavier on performance but it’s still good. Around the same as the A32NX for me.

Go for it. You won’t regret it.

Seems the anti-30fps gang are equally active though.

30 FPS is stuttery as heck on my system when switching to external views and rotating the camera...

Otherwise, I'd be happy with only 30 FPS!

Exactly, simply not enough frames at 30FPS to avoid the picture stutter when doing fast switches and pans. Looks awful.

100% true!

I find 40fps to 45fps to be perfect!

30 seems to be the bare minimum to avoid any stuttering.

I can tolerate 30, but 40+ is perfect for me. Below 30 isn't fun at all, it's ok for a minute or so at the airport, but I don't like when it's sub-30 for long.

I just asked for a refund. For me, the performance is good, above 30 FPS, but the main problem is CTD. Of the 16 flights I started, I only managed to complete 2 (and only because they were short flights). All others were interrupted, most by a CTD and even with a BSOD. I've tried numerous tweaks and settings and none have worked.

I believe the Fenix A320 is burning my PC and it's not able to handle it, so I'll wait until optimizations are done. As I don't know how long this will take, I'd rather have my money back to spend on other addons rather than having something I paid for and can't use. I saw that some were lucky to ask for a refund and get it, so I'm going to try my luck.

Honestly, I hope no other dev comes up with developing an aircraft that depends on an external app to work. It's clear that this app is the main cause of performance issues that many are having and to be honest, I don't believe in short term optimizations.

My Specs: Ryzen 5 3600, RX 580 8GB, 16GB RAM.

Repeated CTDs and in particular BSODs can indicate hardware issues. I had this just after getting the Fenix and couldn’t figure it out. Tried all sorts of setting changes but in the end it turned out I had an unstable overclock. I guess the Fenix put the CPU to its limits and the unstable OC wasn’t apparent before. After tuning my BIOS settings everything has been fine.
