Tried all sorts of setting changes but in the end it turned out I had an unstable overclock. I guess the Fenix put the CPU to its limits and the unstable OC wasn’t apparent before. After tuning my BIOS settings everything has been fine. Your overclock was probably 100% fine. I think that Flight simulator just doesn't like overclocks. Has something to do with a timer that it uses. If you overclock your cpu, it makes the clock tick faster than it normally would be and x number of click ticks doesn't represent the correct amount of time any more.. If you have a Maximus XII Hero, try this in the BIOS: Advanced' menu > System Agent (SA) Configuration\Graphics Configuration > iGPU Multi-Monitor setting > Enable Remember to set the primary display to your GPU. If you have the Formula variant, it probably doesn’t support integrated graphics. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

It’s really strange how performance can vary so much. I am getting good performance with a 4790K and 1080Ti, locked at 30FPS with the displays offloaded to the integrated iGPU. If someone is complaining about FPS with a 3090 and a top of the line CPU, the only possibilities are 1. Bugged install/software issue of some sort where the hardware isn’t being properly utilized 2. hardware issue where the computer isn’t correctly set up or something is wrong (overheating, bad overclock, whatever ) 3. The plane and computer are in fact fine, but the user expects to get 80+ fps like they do in other games like Forza I mean, you literally cannot buy a better GPU/CPU today, so either something is messed up on that computer or else you have weird expectations (100 fps or bust!)

It cost me like 10 fps and my CPU was getting pretty warm. With your GPU, put it on that, balanced, better performance. May 27, 20224 yr People arguing objectively over an aspect of simulation that is 100% subjective. There are a couple of considerations to perhaps be borne in mind though:- Before I got TrackIR, 30 FPS was absolutely perfect in any sim. With TrackIR (and the fast, dynamic 6DOF head movements that it brings) 30 FPS was no longer perceived as smooth. With TrackIR the figure at which I perceive everything as smooth is now about >38 FPS, ideally 40 FPS. Same may apply for those with eye trackers, and of course VR. 30 FPS stutter-free, is smoother than 45 FPS with microstutters in my experience. Smoothness is not exclusively related to FPS perhaps, but frame rate stability. May 27, 20224 yr For me smoothness is totally related to the number of fps , contrary to what a lot of people seem to think here. This «perfectly smooth locked at 30 fps » doesn’t hold anymore until probably you experience yourself what higher fps can give you in terms of immersion. I recently picked up again x-plane 11 with the challenger 650 and can manage to have easily around 50 fps , then I guarantee you realize immediately how locked 30 fps in msfs is not smooth compared to that 😅. (Particularly of course when panning around , taxing , doing tight turns) now for the fenix in msfs I am running « unlocked « and can maintain around 38-40fps in very demanding scenery as I could recently update my cpu so I feel lucky but it still doesn’t feel as « smooth « as 50fps I get in x-plane. we always want more I guess .. I’m talking about « stutter free fps » of course here .. 😉 Edited May 27, 20224 yr by anthony500 Anthony WIN 11 - MSFS 2020, 24 - X-plane 12 9800x3d - ZOTAC OC - RTX 4080 - 4K

I also had this problem once, but I couldn't ctrl alt delete out of the sim, because microsoft.exe wasn't even showing up in the task mgr for me. So I had no option but to restart my computer. After this, everything worked. I believe there was some problem with MSFS trying to communicate with the external Fenix app trying to get it to properly shutdown but somehow got stuck in the process. I really hope the devs can find a better alternative then having to load this external app. Seems like its doing more harm than good, ASUS ROG Maximus Hero XII ▪︎ Intel i9-10900K ▪︎ NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE ▪︎ 64GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ▪︎ Windows 10 Pro (21H1) ▪︎ Samsung 970 EVO Pro 1TB NVME SSD (OS Drive) ▪︎ Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SATA SSD ▪︎ Seagate 4TB SATA HDD ▪︎ Corsair RMx 850W PSU
May 27, 20224 yr I undid the overclock (save that RAM is on an XMP setting), turned off the FPS counter and found … actually using the thing instead of fixating on the FPS, it’s basically fine in all the conditions I can throw at it, including places like EDFF and EGLL with live traffic and ultra 4K (default settings minus bloom and depth of field). Admittedly, this is with new kit (12900ks and 3090ti). But with suitable compromises on the settings, it can be basically fine for almost everyone, I would guess. 14900ks, RTX4090, 64Gb@6000-30-36-36-T2, Samsung 990Pro 2Tb , Dell G3223Q 32" 4k Gsync + 27" secondary monitor.
