They're not set up for launching, there's no catapult functionality attached to the carrier, only the arresting cables. Also if you spawn the carrier in the world right now the deck isn't solid, so they must be doing some trickery in the challenge itself to make the ship solid. Edited May 26, 20224 yr by Tuskin38

They implied in their dev Q&A that they can set them free in the wider world but the 'time isn't right'. Interesting. A guess: maybe to avoid YT videos showing the carrier and the Super Hornet being used in current real world areas of war? (But such videos would be possible anyway with other addons, so I guess not) Another guess: to stay only focused on the Top Gun movie themes right now, maybe part of their deal with the movie producers / PR guys? Another guess: development just not done yet, but were forced to release it now to match the movie release date. Mario Donick .:. vFlyteAir

May 26, 20224 yr The only thing stopping moving carriers is making moving objects landable. Since that function has masses of other applications I don't get why they can't extend that to developers at least and never do anything further with this carrier. Then again the way they've done it here isn't that. The model isn't solid. Something in the landing challenge or plane creates it I think. Maybe it's a ton of work they don't want to do, but if FSX could then it can't be that much of a stretch.

IIRC they said MSFS was originally built on base FSX without acceleration, but they seem to be slowly adding in acceleration features. The F-18 has has a tailhook since launch, and SU9 added the launch bar animations. Looking at the sim.cfg file for the MSFS carrier, it has 2 entries not in the FSX Carrier HasMovingPlatform = 1 and [Carrier] carrier = 1 The Carrier's tower is also a completely separate sim object that is attached to the deck somehow. May 26, 20224 yr I can't wait to try this.. haha! I always wanted an 'Aroura Spy Plane' since the FS2004 days and this looks similar. I remember flying it in Janes ATF and Fighters Anthology. ASUS Prime Z490-A / i7-10700K / RTX 4080 / G.SKILL Ripjaws 32GB / Lian-Li PC-O11 Dynamic case

May 26, 20224 yr Marketplace has a modern Carrier available as a fixed airport in 8 locations around the world plus one of your choice. A bit of trickery is included for Catapults and Arrestor cables. No animations included, but, it has a hard deck. Dirt cheap fun. Regards, Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .

May 26, 20224 yr Compared to what's been available in DCS for several years, this is... comical. Really surprised MSFS wouldn't have something a little more complete than this. I guess it's (rightly) not a priority though; MSFS is primarily (almost entirely) intended as a civilian sim. Still... geez. Andrew Crowley
May 26, 20224 yr Someone has slapped the carrier off Guadalupe using the old' 'flat piece of land under the object' trick. So it doesn't move, it's just a static object. The arrestor cables work, but they don't detach https://flightsim.to/file/33841/top-gun-carrier Edited May 26, 20224 yr by Tuskin38
