Is the 3090Ti worth financial penury?

true  but  than  what happens  when  the 5080  series comes out the following  year 🙂

There's always new tech every year  that never changes but this close to a new series launch that's a deferent  story and I honestly don't think its a wise one so close to releasing... I made that mistake once....never again... lol If you have the money then its never a problem go for it. I'm on a 2080Ti so I'm waiting for the 4080 since for me its a lot of money to spend if You cant wait and you need a card now then that's different.

Yes, technology marches onward, there will always be the next big thing just barely visible on the horizon.  Given the limited supply of chip production and high demand, now joined by monetary inflation, I'll be satisfied with my 3070 for quite a while.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

I decided to go with a 3080ti over the 3090 after my research.  I just could not see the justification of $800 more for 8GB more of VRAM.  So far, I am VERY happy with the results in MSFS and P3D.  Our company uses VR and they don't use 3090s either.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

I am lusting after a 3090ti but reason tells me I can buy a 3080ti, new MB and new CPU for today's cost of the 3090ti. I'm waiting to see what Amazon Prime Day (July 12 + 13) wows me with before I decide.

Jay -- If you end up getting the 3090ti, make sure your PSU is beefy enough to handle it....

One of the cards on sale now for Amazon Prime Day : ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX™ 3080 Trinity OC LHR 10GB GDDR6X. $799

Watching Jayz2cents channel today (YouTube ) He suggested if you're in the market for a 30 series card it may be best to hedge and buy soon as Nvidia will be or already has shifted production to the 40 series coming this fall (rumor is July but fall is likely). 30 Series stock levels will drop off since they want to push buyers to the 40 series. Fence sitters for the 30 Series may be out of luck once the 40 series drops on finding either cards. Expect 40 Series to sellout quick. Nvidia increased production on the 30 Series from the 20 Series at launch and it still wasn't enough.

Sold my 3080Ti for 930 and got a 3090 for 1090 Euros. Seems like a good change for the upcoming SU10.

How are you finding the 12700 with the 3090? I built my PC about a month ago and for giggles I advertised it and have a serious buyer.  The 3080TI is a really great card but with the profit I am making from my sale and a small investment I could pick up a 3090TI.

I have been building PC’s for friends and family for years, this will be the first one I’ve built and sold. I’m even considering using my old PC (i5-9600K & 1080TI) for a bit longer and wait until the 13th gen CPU’s arrive with the 40 series cards.

I would definetly recommend the 3090 or 3090Ti if MSFS@4K is your main use-case. For other games it does not make sense, but I am regularly seeing 13Gb+ VRAM usage with the sim and that still on DX11.

Thank you,

What I’m seeing now with my 12GB 3080TI is around 10GB VRAM in complex aircraft like the Fenix or PMDG but it’s never gone higher and that is at full 4K. I wonder if MSFS somehow caps the amount of VRAM depending on how much you have.

Yes. If you have more VRAM then the sim will use it, even though it may not translate to higher performance as some of that usage could be inefficient.

I've got a 3090 and its massively under utilised in MSFS. Everything is on ultra on my 4K display and I'm still CPU main thread limited with my 5800X. My opinion is at the moment, nothing more than a 3080 is really needed....just my view.

Try pushing the render scale past 100 to increase the load on your GPU,

I was in the same situation with my 3080TI until I discovered this trick over on the Microsoft forum. I am currently running full 4K also on a 43 inch TV and have every setting maxed out. TLOD & OLOD both on 200. I have my render scale at 130 and my GPU usage sits around 70% but what this does is always keep my CPU timing lower than GPU which makes for a much smoother experience. I have seen much better results since doing this. It is a much better way of tuning the sim for your hardware. If you need to reduce the CPU timing you can adjust the LOD settings and traffic.

Whenever you are Main Thread Limited that is when you will start to see stutters.

How do you find the power draw & temps of the 3090 compared to the 3080TI?

I have been eying up a couple of 3090TI's, they are still pretty expensive here and I am not sure there will be a massive difference in MSFS. The 3090's have really dropped though
