Black Square creating Steam Gauge Overhaul series

So exciting, a brilliant idea. The planes look nice enough, but I just don't like the glass cockpit.

It's a great idea, that is WAY overpriced. A poster meme for overpricing could be made by just copying their sales page. It costs 50% more than the 247D airliner (which is a masterpiece).

5800X3D, RTX4070, 600 Watt, one or two 1440p 32" screens, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB  PCle 3 NVMe, Warthog throttle, VKB NXT EVO stick, Honeycomb Alpha yoke, CH quad, 3 Logitech panels, 2 StreamDecks, Desktop Aviator Trim Panel. Crystal Light VR.

So they want about 30 USD for the Caravan and 39 USD for the King air.  I don't think that's too overpriced.  Carenado sells for about the same price.  As long as the king air does have some decent flight dynamics and something more believable than the default king air I'll be happy.

I think we need to have a little more realistic expectations about pricing.  I made a nice livery for the FSW C414 - I did it in "2D" and I'm not the best graphic artist.  It took me over 40 hours not including taking nice screenshots to present the livery etc etc.  I did it for free as well.  Designing gauges for a whole cockpit seems more intense than making a livery.  I think 30-50 USD is decent for someone's hard work for these type of aircraft.

My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL |
| Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking though swapping the wear and tear system of the REP for revamping the instruments and avionics.

I wish someone would implement a wear n tear module.  Something like, a hidden counter to represent the cycles of a gauge or system.  And over time that would present a failure or increased chance of failure.  Something right up A2A's alley, if they wanted to do something like AccuFeel, that would work with any aircraft.

That way if you had something that was...less-than-super-detailed...it could ramp it up a notch with such an add-on.

😳 I'm so down for this! Yaasssss!!

Though, I'm also wondering if things like Autofeather, AUX fuel pumps, etc. will be working.

As far as the listed feature set, this one was kinda funny:

Sounds

Black Square’s Analog King Air features the default MSFS-native (Wwise) 3D King Air 350i sound package, inside and out. Default sounds have been carefully assigned to all interactable cockpit elements for an authentic 3D spatial experience.

  • Rich audio for every switch, button, lever and electrical system
  • Detailed physics-based effects on engine and wind noise
  • Accurately positioned 3D sound sources (best enjoyed in VR!)

Check the MilViz 310R, you will find your wishes realized.

Is there even such a think as a KA 350 with analogue gauges in real life? Also, all the new Caravans are G1000. I would love the King Air to have accurate flight modelling, systems modelling, engine modelling, and the G1000 NXI (instead of whatever is in there now)

I'm a real fan of round gauges. Especially in sim planes. If I know what the dial looks like up close, then I know what speed or altitude etc. is indicated by just looking at the direction that moving hand is currently pointing. I do not have to get close to read the numbers. I do have to move in to read the numbers on a moving tape in the sim. For me that's the whole ballgame (when I'm in a sim looking at a monitor). I want information at the quickest of glances. The six pack gives me that.

This is a very big issue with me. But I am not buying an 'update' to a plane , that costs more than many of my addon planes. And then I still would have the ordinary default level Asobo characteristics that have nothing to do with the gauge changes. The outside modeling, the door and window movements, etc.

Yes, the B350 has been around for a while. Milviz offers a great model without glass cockpit, but with a Proline 21 FMS, for P3D.

My biggest concern is this statement.  Hopefully they can resolve this.

“Unfortunately, it is not possible to drive the stock MSFS autopilot system with a custom navigation source without implementing a whole new autopilot (to the best of my knowledge). It is recommended that you simply steer the autopilot via the heading bug with reference to the RNAV course deviation shown on the CDI.”

Wow.

If that's for the HSIs (as well as they've custom RNAV system), then that is an absolute showstopper for me.   An avionics and realism upgrade - that incapacitates the entire GPS NAV system of the plane, with AP steering available only via HDG mode? 😬

IMO they should get that issue addressed before considering releasing this.

That showstopper issue aside, the rest sounds fantastic.

It reads to me like this is ONLY an issue with the custom RNAV system and that the standard GPS modules will continue to work fine ?

Those prices do include 20% Tax but I'm not sure how that get's handled with non  GBP prices on JF.

I've just downloaded the manuals and, as someone said above, that comment about needing to use Heading mode, is included twice; once in the section on the custom KNS-80 RNAV system, but it's also their in the section for the standard HSI, that is used in all options within the mod.

Hopefully this is an error in the manual, as I can't see why the HSI would prevent the AP NAV mode working with the GNS530, PMS750 or TDS750, as NAV works fine with those in other planes (and can't see why a custom HSI would break that).

Hopefully it is just confusion in the manual as if the AP system is that comprehensively broken then it is, as you say, a showstopper.

you forgot a minor detail: plus you get a complete airplane on top, comes free with the steam gauges so to speak 😊
