What has changed since launch?

It’s sad that after 2 years, in-game ATC is still so poor. It’s such a critical part of flight, especially IFR. I guess it’s still very much a VFR game/sim. Is Pilot2ATC still one of the better ATC solutions?

You can fly IFR without ATC... I do all the time. 🙂

It's sad that after 30+ years of flight sims, in-game ATC is still poor in all of them.  It's such a critical part of flight, especially IFR.  (Fixed that one for you 🙃)

IFR in the Fenix A320, PMDG737, BAE146, Maddog-82, or Flybwire A320 (free) using VATSim and to a lesser extent Pilot2ATC are about the best IFR experience you'll ever get (of have ever had access to) in a computer program written primarily for consumers looking to spend a one time cost of around $60 to $120.

I agree with you that a robust and well done default ATC is sorely missing for us solo flyers, but an actual person is not going to be surpassed in terms of realism and simulation if that's what you are looking for in your experience.  ATC has never been a huge priority for P3D, XPlane, or MSFS and I think it's partially because the vast majority of simulation seekers are on VATSim already and it provides something AI never could.  Historically add-on developers have been few and far between as well because the market might not be there even if it seems like it around here.

I have been flying MSFS 2020 IFR  since the day one with PF3 for ATC. Works great.

The flight director now works without the autopilot on. That was such a frustrating issue.

Laminar Research customer -- Asobo/MS customer -- not an X-Aviation customer - or am I? 😉

Yeah, it seems odd to me that MSFS has things like fuel trucks and flag people, moving jetways, and stuff like that which are clearly aimed at increasing immersion while the ATC is telling you to change to flight level 200 on approach. 😄 Just spend a bit more effort on the ATC... it doesn't need to be as realistic as talking to a real person, it just needs to not do stupid random flight level assignments.

That seems like a decent solution. It's much lighter and less cluttered than Pilot2ATC and seems to offer a pretty realistic experience. Thanks!

Remember that you can ignore ATC if you want to control the IFR flight.  Worst that can happen is that you will get reprimanded for landing on the wrong runway.

I want to simulate proper IFR commercial flight. Not a Harrison Ford style incident. 🙂

It's better, but nowhere near what I thought it would be today when it was released.

System: I ASRock X670E | AMD 7800X3D | 64Gb DDR5 6000 | RTX 4090 | 2TB NVMe | Seasonic Vertex 1000W I LG Ultra Gear 34 UW I

When the sim was released I, and maybe we, expected:

1) Airplanes (GA to Airliners) that were complete and perfect.

2) Airports to be fully modeled.

3) Live Weather that gave us a realistic flying experience.

4) A working ATC for both VFR & IFR operations with voice commands.

5) AI Traffic (GA & Airliners.)

6) Flight planning tools that were easy to use and that integrated with each aircraft's avionics.

Plus, a stable platform with good fps. I also wanted all my controllers to work and they did.

There has been some growing pains, but overall ASOBO has exceeded my expectations and they still have 8 years to improve all aspects the sim.

Unless this is heavily sarcastic, I don’t understand how those could be your expectations and that you feel they’ve exceeded them. None of your expectations have been met as far as I can tell… 2 years after release.

It has exceeded my expectations because I deleted P3D & XP11 and I don't miss them at all. For me, despite all the areas of the core sim that can be improved, it's still my favorite flightsim of all time. Flying in the Caribbean or tropical destinations was only but a dream before MSFS 2020.  I'll go as far as to say that this sim, to ME, blows all my other sims (FSX/P3D/XP11) away and I've experienced fully loaded sims.

MSFS right now, is fully loaded! I have many amazing payware aircraft, many excellent payware airports, FSRealistic, AIG traffic, and a working ATC. I even have my GoFlight software & modules working. So I'm very happy with what has been achieved by ASOBO and the team after 2 years.
