It's especially getting into a grey area considering he's asking money for a piece of software, which sole function is to serve content he has no rights over, in a way that isn't even entirely allowed, as far as I understand.

Yup, now that that there is a payware component this may get more attention from Google and we may lose it all together.

...and this on a subscription basis - quite cheeky, IMHO 😒...although I like(d) the MET and donated for it (up to the 5.x versions) more than once, I NEVER will subscribe (30USD/12 months, currently) to it.

Making it payware seems a risky move.

I won't either... I guess donations just weren't cutting it

Not going to subscribe. I’ll hold onto 6.0.4.

It's also kinda immoral earning money with content from others. I have now "deleted" it at flightsim.to so that I don't get further notification about updates etc.

I'm still using 5.10, which works perfectly fine under current SU10b4. Tried the 6xx versions until last friday - didn't notice any advantage for me...

I can see Flightsim.to pulling this pretty quickly now…

I would love to know the percentage of users who donated.  I donated once when I started using it and then again after he introduced High LOD.

Do we know he hasn't got some arrangement with Google for the data?  No idea how this works.

Very unlikely. MET basdically works like a Man in the middle attack (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man-in-the-middle_attack ) - it intercepts the map traffic from MS server's and the client (your MSFS 2020 installation) and injects google's satellite tile data. I can't imagine MET is granted any license by Google, Mapbox etc... That's also why MS "forbids" the use of MET...
