High LOD

When enabled, the image server will load 4 images from the next LOD level. For example, when MSFS2020 asks to provide images from level 18, the image server will loads 4 images from level 19 and merge them. The image MSFS2020 received is a 512*512 image compared to 256*256 image.

Cache option is recommended to enable to increase loading speed.

Although this can provide higher resolution and improve image quality, but the loading speed may slow because 4x images needs to be loaded.

More memory maybe used because the image is 4 times larger.

You who use this program are you also exposed to the new ongoing CTD problem?

@MrBitstFlyer did you have to do anything specific to get the mod to work? I think you mentioned before you got some advice from the developer.

Changing the mod settings during the sim running, seem to  cause CTDs

I followed the guide/advice concerning any app locking out port 143. On the few occasions the mod did run, I had slow loading and blurry tiles. I forget things 10 minutes after doing them (I got it working a year ago), but in my case it was Microsoft OneDrive stopping the mod from starting properly - soon as I temporarily stopped OneDrive syncing the mod worked fine. 

There is a link to a video that helped me understand port 143 problems - click the question mark in the mod then click on faq. 

This is what high LOD gives me: 

Others are reporting the same in the comment section at flightsim.to. In the changelogs the author states the following: 

"Please be aware turn on high lod needs a perfect network and may occupy more GPU memory."

Well I've got an optic line with up to 600Mbps and a custom UniFi network setup using only wired LAN connections. And I should have plenty of VRAM. 

Oh well. Maybe a solution suddenly appears. In the meantime I'll keep using alpha version 6.0.4 which doesn't have high LOD, but otherwise works flawlessly 🙂

Yeah I went through troubleshooting port 143 issues a few months back, as well as all the other items in the faq. To no avail. I think I'll just leave it for now - too much tinkering, not enough flying 😉

That's Google. Although the Bing server with the latest imagery isn't bad either since it isn't over process

Noticed a comment few days ago, on the tool's flightsim.to page, that someone got IP banned from Google maps using this. Bit akin to when you created too many tiles in Ortho4XP for X-Plane. So he couldn't even use Google maps in a browser or anything. So that's something to keep in mind. 

 

Also, 6.0.8 out;

Fix:
* default install path changed to {USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming which fix the "help" not showing (please uninstall old 6.0.x version first)
* fix highlod loading issue

This may also be illustrating the problem that I had with Google Maps data... at this time of year, I don't think there will be that much snow on the ground (if any - except at extreme elevations). If I use the Google Maps data for the Vancouver area, all the aerial photos were clearly taken in early spring or late fall as there is snow showing on the ground - even just above sea level... but that's definitely not what you see in the real-world in August around here.
