I had blurry, slow loading textures. Most of the time I had image server failed messages. I contacted the author who helped sort the issue on my PC and I have used it for a year now with no further problems - including a hosts file that has never been 'messed up'. The developer has had two donations from me. First was when he helped get my initial issues sorted. The second was when he added the high LOD option. I think your post is rather unfair to a developer of such a useful tool. If you either didn't attempt to find out what was wrong, or gave up trying early on, then it would be fairer and more understandable if you just said you personally didn't want to pursue fixing the initial problems. I would recommend this excellent addon to everyone. August 16, 20223 yr For those who are experiencing tiling: Make sure rolling cache in the sim is turned off, and deleted. The Map enhancement app has it's own cache. I find that this must be cleared from time to time, as google themselves update their tiles, which cause the tiling effect. The best way to do this is to manually delete the contents of the app's cache folder- it will rebuild itself the nest time you run the app, and the tiling effect will no longer be present. Mine for instance is D:\cache. Yours may be different. The app itself has a "clear cache" button in the options- it does not work for me, so I just clear it manually when I have to. This may have been fixed in later versions of the app, however I'm reluctant to update as I've had issues with newer versions. Mine is 5.0.8. You can find it at github here: https://github.com/derekhe/msfs2020-map-enhancement/releases/tag/v5.0.8 Hi, I'm using Map Enhancement 5.0.9 (newer versions not working for me at all). With this version (5.0.9) the app cache does not work. It is always empty and I experience tiling. But the tiling is less evident with rolling cache! (Oh, man, mysteries of technology!). Anyway, I prefer Google Maps, so I use this app. Regards. Edited August 16, 20223 yr by John Fields
August 16, 20223 yr I’ve never been able to use the mod successfully in any of the iterations I’ve tried. And it’s not lack of trying. I’ve been through the FAQ and followed all advice there. Just for “fun” I downloaded 6.0.2 yesterday. And nope. It downloads like 1 or 2 tiles that’s it. I consider myself fairly tech savvy. But this mod… to make it work probably requires some level of black magic. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5
August 16, 20223 yr I had no problems with the earlier versions but also experienced tiling with the more recent carnations. I uninstalled it a couple of months back and will wait until there is a stable versiin before I consider using again. Yes, it sometimes doesn't convert the hosts file back to default, but you only need to delete the last 2 lines from the file and msfs will do it for you. August 16, 20223 yr Author 6.0.3 was released; * May fix the crash to desk issue when starting the mod (this may be caused by the UAC prompt in WinUI3) * Fix cache location, the default location now is relative path * Unpatch hosts file when exit * More logs * Fix ArcGIS loading invalid content [MSI MPG X870E Carbon | 9800X3D (PBO +200Mhz / -20 Offset) | Corsair 64GB DDR5 (Custom Timings) | RTX 4090 Founders Edition (Undervolted) | WD SNX 850X 4TB + 4TB | Antec Flux Pro]

Not giving up on this mod, lol. I think perhaps 6.0.2. was not working for me as I had "HighLOD" selected, which apparently is not working yet in the alpha. 7950X3D | RTX 4090 | 64GB DDR5

August 16, 20223 yr My understanding is that there's three things that make up the scenery... 1. The mesh resolution... which can be enhanced for various locations as an add-on. 2. The texture quality... which comes from Bing default, Bing recent, or Google Maps 3. The buildings... which can be enhanced with photogrammetry and custom scenery upgrades As someone else put it recently, there's the floor boards, the carpet, and the furniture. This mod is changing your carpet 😄 Edited August 16, 20223 yr by Virtual-Chris

August 17, 20223 yr I tried both Google Maps and Bing Newest maps tonight and the Google Maps didn't really improve anything that I could see around Vancouver. Their aerial photography was obviously taken in spring or fall because there was snow on the mountain tops which was a bit immersion breaking in August. Sadly there was still a smear on some mountain sides, so in the end, I'm not really impressed. Bing Newest maps actually negatively affected Vancouver's photogrammetry and I couldn't see any changes with it either. All sets of maps data seem to lack recent high-rise developments so none of them are that current for this area. I'm just going to stick to the default maps data, and maybe look at GeForce Experience filtering to get more realistic colours (try and remove some of that nasty green tint that default Bing applies to everything). The best enhancements you can make are via add-on scenery, mesh, etc. I've got a few Vancouver enhancements off Flightsim.to and they make way more difference than any of these map sources.
