The 40th anniversary bonanza is shaping up to be the biggest gift in the hobby's history. So much free stuff and so many little things that are going to tug on the ole nostalgia strings (personally it's going to be taking the Beaver around Alaska, Misty Moorings style!).

The helicopter physics look fantastic. I'm sure it won't be totally accurate in its first iteration, but after a few rounds of feedback and tweaking it looks like it has the granularity to challenge established leaders like DCS. 

Very classy way to celebrate the anniversary from MS/Asobo. Love it.

Bing is Microsoft. The photogrammetry they took for this is also in Bing right now.

The money part is the key here.

If I went to Smithsonian and asked them to pull out an old aircraft so I could take a closer look at it I expect a swift, but polite NO.

And spending all that time scanning and traveling around talking to people would probably make sure that I would never get the project into positive figures.

Me too, I rather liked to see AI Traffic or weather improvments, or something telling that ILS and PAPI are correctly matching each others.

You realize that it's very common for the ILS and the Papi not to match in real life,it says in about 90% of the Jepp plates I read as an airline pilot that ILS and glide path are non coincident ie they don't match up

Nah modern planes are pretty boring,I love flying the classics. I fly one of the most advanced airliners in the world for a living but if I had my choice I'd be flying a DC-3 back in the late 1930s... Before all the regulations,ATC etc.

Totally agree those glass cockpits are getting somewhat boring, give me an analog or half backed analog/digital, with limited or no autopilot, hand-wrestling your way to the runway, even in a sim is way much fun!

I’ve been going more and more in this direction in the sim after flying the usual suspects (Fenix, PMDG, FBW and before that the Zibo mod) for a while. With these modern avionics suites like the G1000 one can pretty much throttle back at 10000ft in a DA40, select direct to the airport whilst setting up a visual approach and glide all the way down to the runway. But what’s the fun in doing that, lol. I’m not quite there with the legends, but I find that increasingly I choose analog cockpits over glass. Another thing is that with the visuals in this sim, I’d rather be close to the ground than way up there at FL380 for most of the flight. And - although I’m not yet into the legends - I do appreciate Jörg’s enthusiusm when he talks about “his” digital preservation project. As simmers I think we’re very lucky to have him at the helm 🙂 Without him, @turbomax would still be messing about in FSX 😉

Good one! Did you manage to dissolve parts of the engine into the oil yet? If you haven’t you need to fly the analog Caravan more 🙂

Oh, and see if you can get into OG20 at night 😉 GPS strictly forbidden of course. Yes I’m having a love affair with that bird at the moment.

hhmm, before accurate weather forecast, let alone weather radar, terrain depiction; tcas, electronic charts  ....

i suggest a compromise: DC3 in the late 30s plus G1000 NXi and foreflight from the early 2020s😊

Definitely, he's been an outstanding project lead / ambassador / evangelist. He'd probably make a good Harvard Business Review in himself; what happens when passion, competence and resources all meet?

I wonder of the DC-3 will have a cockpit option with a GPS, and one without.

Copilot to Pilot: "Oh look your Mom's on the passenger list!".
