we sold off our ability to store gas years ago, and we cant frack. so we have no choice but to buy energy at whatever the rate is.

Most western countries are in the same boat. Yes, some have storage capacity but not limitless. The price has spiked recently because Germany is trying to get as much gas as it can because it was heavily dependent on Russia.

And the Germans wont/can't pay in rubles. Which is what the contract they signed says they must pay in.

There's always two sides to every story.

@fluffyflops, you're venturing into politics. That's not permitted as you well know. Don't force me to hide any more political opinions.

A bit of 'venturing' ?

Well, where I live in Southwest Florida, it seldom drops below the 50's or 60's F even in the dead of Winter.  But the Summers are another story.  Now much of the World is starting to dread the Summer months as well...  Tipping point, anyone?

Same in Portugal, and Spain.

I used to find that people spend way too much water & energy.

I've always been neurotic about water and electricity comsumption, to the suffering of those who have to share their lives with me 🙂 at work and at home. It always makes me wonder how much electricity is stupidly spent  to illuminate those huge towns that look like christmas trees ...

Same for water, and actually same for the way we eat, and spend money in so so so many far from priority goods, like building an expensive righ to play a game like a flight simulator....

It took me years to build my last PC, and I did it in july 2021 specifically to play MFS. I confess it was the best machine I ever built for flight simulation, but it was a tough decision because I spent around € 1,100 euros total, which I consider a fortune paid to play a desktop game 😕

I think human kind will have to learn, during the next decades, new ways of living their lives.

For me now with 58, who grew living with my parents in a flat with 1 room ( T1 ) until I got married for the 1st time, who bought his first car at the age of 27, in 1991, an old Opel from 1970, and got his first PC, although I always worked in IT, at the age of 30, and was "forced" to use a smartphone for the very 1st time 1,5 years ago, an inexpensive Acatel 1 SE offered by my daughter because she was really mad at not being able to communicate in Whatsapp, I believe it'll be easier to adapt to the future... but for most who live in western Europe and north Americas and depend havilly on consumism, it'll probably become a lot harder...

My mother is in Boynton Beach and was up here for a week (NJ) and kept saying she couldn't believe it was warmer up here than down there.  I kept telling then go back to Florida where it's "cool" LOL

Awesome... and typical. Meanwhile oil profits are 50 billion. And that's just the quarterly profit.

The State of New Mexico is sharing it's 'windfall' royalties from the oil and gas companies drilling in the state with it's citizens.  So far this summer we have received three 500 dollar checks from the state.

Oh, I see now.  So you don't have a battery storage system, then?

Thanks.

How exactly was his post in any way "political"?

He stated a fact regarding the energy situation in Germany.

It looks to me like some of you guys are arbitrarily deciding what is and isn't "political" or "unacceptable" speech in these forums.

I've asked for a written policy and have yet to hear back.  I guess we'll just stumble along haphazardly, where some posts get deleted because they are deemed to be in violation of a vague policy.

Anywhere below about 45 degs. latitude gets "hot" in the summer, and by "hot" I mean many days where the temp. gets above 90F/32C.  It is not and never has been unusual for the northern part of the USA to get that hot in the summer.

I live in southern Alabama and the summers here are no hotter than in areas further north like Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, and even occasionally states further north.  The difference is that the warm temps start earlier in the year and endure until later in the year and winters are relatively mild with few days below freezing and very rarely any snow.  With all the thunderstorms we've been having lately it is cooler here than it is further north.  Remember that we are still in full summer here in most of the USA until late September.

The word politics does not appear in the rules, but this does:

Quote

based solely on our judgement and what we deem to be in the best interests of AVSIM Online, our community, and its partners and advertisers.

which means that they can do whatever they want.
It is equally clear that questioning this will result in a ban.

That is vague, subjective, and arbitrary.

It is, but they are their rules, as I mentioned and it's been that way ever since I joined in November 2007.
Sometimes, it is better to just walk away and come back when you have got over it.
I will admit to having done that many hundreds of times over the years.
