It is, but they are their rules, as I mentioned and it's been that way ever since I joined in November 2007.
Sometimes, it is better to just walk away and come back when you have got over it.
I will admit to having done that many hundreds of times over the years.

I agree.  I have had posts deleted and most times the staff has explained to me why it was deleted, which I appreciate.

No one wants to knowingly violate AVSIM's policies and rules.  The issue for me is that censoring/editing must be done in a consistent and fair way.  Absent a clear, coherent policy that is difficult to accomplish.

How exactly was his post in any way "political"?

He stated a fact regarding the energy situation in Germany.

It looks to me like some of you guys are arbitrarily deciding what is and isn't "political" or "unacceptable" speech in these forums.

I've asked for a written policy and have yet to hear back.  I guess we'll just stumble along haphazardly, where some posts get deleted because they are deemed to be in violation of a vague policy.

Dave

I hid the post that went political. It was beyond what is acceptable in this discussion.

Ah, now it makes sense.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Since it was 'hidden,' the reason for that action might not have been seen. Mentioning a prominent politician was pushing the thread in a bad direction. 💩

Dave, in addition to what Ray said, there’s always this as well - see attached screen shot below.

Some subjects eventually turn political because the topic talked about, while maybe not seeming controversial, might be something that certain politicians or political ideologies push for, and it’s only a matter of time before those replies start to happen.

Trust me, I’ve seen a topics posted with no replies to it and have to either lock it or hide it because I know the usually suspects will get involved and it will turn into either an ideological or political debate.

Not much doubt about that Noel.
We will most surely be the authors of our own demise and we are well on the way to achieving that.

I can somehow "understand" the Energy Price Inflation in Europe, given the dependency in Russia's gas, but, what about the USA ? Why there too ?  And I wonder about other regions of the World ...

Russian gas, emerging from lockdown and a number of other economic issues.

This is a quote from an article that seeks to explain the high "energy" price

Quote

Why are energy prices so high?
Energy prices soared throughout 2021 due to a combination of factors. It is an international issue rather than something solely affecting the UK.Last year countries in Asia and Europe used significant amounts of gas stocks during a long winter, and the increased demand helped drive up prices, while the reopening of economies following the Covid-19 pandemic also led to higher energy usage.More recently, the conflict in Ukraine has led to the cost of Russian gas soaring even further, which has in turn pushed bills higher. In the UK, very little gas is sourced from Russia, but this has not shielded suppliers from the pricing impact across the rest of Europe, which typically purchased around 40 per cent of natural gas from Russia.
Due to sanctions placed on Russia Europe is buying less gas from Russia, but cutting out the Russian supply has pushed up the price of gas from other sources.
Due to current market conditions, energy prices are continually being increased with the cap expected to rise even further next year.

My question is, since the UK apparently does this:

Quote

Of the energy total in 2020 electricity (including renewables) accounted for 56%, oil and gas extraction accounted for 27%, and gas accounted for 11%

and obtains only this:

Quote

The UK's reliance on Russian gas is far less significant, at just 3 per cent

Why is my electricity bill going to rise even further than the existing 66% increase, by another 80% in October and another 100% or more predicted for early 2023?
However high the gas price is, it is still only generating 3% of 11% of my electricity, virtually negligeable.

As ive said before, its quite clear.

Germany has signed a contract to buy gas in Russian Rubles, but they cant due sanctions, but it is my guess at some point they are going to have no choice to cave in.

Its the similar to cargologicair's situation, with their Shareholder, being russian.

https://www.flightglobal.com/airlines/volga-dnepr-founder-quit-post-at-cargologicair-ahead-of-uk-sanctions/149216.article

its illegal (due UK law) not to pay your staff, but its also illegal for them to pay any of their staff, or bills from a UK Bank account, therefore they cant pay their staff, because the sanctions rules out weight UK law, A legal quagmire they have themselves in.

Similar to Germany, their contract is to pay for the gas in Rubles, not Euros.  They are stuck between a Rock and a hard place. They are being hit by the sanctions they have made and passing it onto the consumer.  Thats the fact of the matter on the topic title, thats why people are going to "go to work to keep warm"

Now try telling that to single mother or the millions who cant pay for energy, and therefore are going to freeze this winter.  Apprently according to Boris this is a good price to pay.  Again try telling that to the poor who are going to be cold.

I thought the contracts were in Dollars and Euros and Putin demanded that contracts be switched to Rubles?  You imply this is something people voluntarily signed up for...  Your earlier comment about two sides to every story regarding this whole situation is mind blowing frankly.  Your inability to see beyond your own backyard is staggering. This isn't a "result" of the contracts they signed or sanctions that were inexplicably applied.  There is a big reason behind all of this I will not take us down as certain topics have been explicitly called out as no-go's...

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-04-20/germany-rejects-putin-demand-for-ruble-payments-for-gas-exports

Quote

Putin’s demand stipulates that European gas buyers open two accounts, one in a foreign currency and one in rubles. Gazprombank would then be responsible for converting the foreign currency into the Russian one and transferring the money to Gazprom PJSC.

The Russian leader has threatened to halt gas supplies to buyers that don’t comply. Such a move could have drastic consequences for European Union economies, which rely on Russia for about 40% of their gas.

In a March 31 decree, Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded that natural-gas payments be made in rubles, which would entail opening a euro and ruble account with the country's Gazprombank to process payments.

What perplexes me a bit is why electricity prices in Europe are so high.  I understand that natural gas prices have skyrocketed due to the Russia situation, but why electricity prices?

Does Europe have a lot of natural gas power plants?

I've also read that France's power production, mostly from nuclear plants, has fallen.  What's up with that?

By the way, that article about 20 million Americans being unable to afford electricity is mostly nonsense.  More media propaganda.  Electricity prices in the USA have not doubled over the past year.  My electricity price has barely increased.  There are always millions of people in the USA who are behind on their utility payments, and their car payments, and their mortgage payments, and on and on.  It's not a crisis and it's not unusual.  However, I'm sure the situation has gotten worse for millions of people due to the high inflation and the fact that the economy is in a recession.
