I guess they figure after the shortage and how people were paying $2k+, what's a few hundred more dollars over expected MSRP... The demand isn't what it was in 2021. Since the shortage ended, a lot of people upgraded fairly recently, and most people playing anything except MSFS, those extra FPS aren't needed except to FPS chasers (there are quite a few FPS chasers though). I really cannot think of any places in MSFS where I fly that I really need the extra FPS, but I don't often fly into large cities, so haven't really tested the worst performing airports. Still, it's only going to be a handful of places. I will probably just keep my 3080, if I return it, there is no guarantee the 4080's will actually be available on that date. September 20, 20223 yr I'm so close to dropping 1K on a 3090Ti.....but I can hold out to Nov for a 4080 12b for $900 if....if....if 1. That price holds true (or near true) 2. I can get one before December...of 2024! I think scalpers will be up to there old tricks on the 4080 release day...they'll suck up the entire inventory, we'll see a $900 card going for $3000 on eBay for the 1st few months. Unless Nvidia and the AIBs put a strict 2 card limit max on purchases and use technology (that is available) to enforce that. Otherwise I see no hope of the average, non-rich simmer having a chance on getting one for several months (at least) after they are released. September 20, 20223 yr I think Nvidia made too many, so I think only a month of scalping at best. The word on the street is NVIDIA expanded their production massively in 2021 due to the demand and shortage and they over-estimated the demand of the 4000 series. Remember, it's a global demand not just US, so the fact that not only is Bitcoin continuing to crash, but there is a war going on, and the international economy is mostly in the dumps is going to hurt the demand. I guess unless your current one broke and you need a new card. My 1080 ti is still decent enough but if I really could double my fps for 1200 bucks that would be money well spent.
