DX11 & DX12 with SU10 + New Drivers

Hello all! Here are my findings with unlimited FPS to test. Seems like DX11 is better for me. Also using TAA with a LOD of 150. With that I can almost be stutter free. My goal is to lock frames to 40fps.

So higher fps with DX11 - but is it more smooth? Btw there's already several threads on this...

No, I find DX11 more smooth...

My findings are similar, I gain an average of 5 fps from DX11. The sweet spot for me is also to lock it to 40 fps. Smoothness, if 40 fps is maintained, is the same in both DX11 and DX12, obviously if I go to a heavy scenery, I will start having stutters (minor) first with DX12 since it gives me 5 fps less.

Similar findings here also, though the cost of DX12 seems to vary depending on  complexity... with less difference between DX11 vs DX12 with more complex settings and aircraft. That said, DX12 is very smooth.

In the second image above, the final calculated frame rate is 50.0fps which is obviously the reciprocal of 20msec.

However, what I don't understand is given the above information, from where is this 20msec calculated from when the longest individual thread time is 18.8msec, equating to ~53.2fps ? So is it the total of more than one of the thread times, which, when summed together give 20msec ?

one starts to wonder whether Asobo's effort in DX12 enhancements is really worth it or not.

Oh yes, I believe the issue is more with Nvidia than with DX12. When I had an AMD card, in every game where it was available, DX12 or Vulkan performed better than DX11. Will probably switch back next gen. Xbox has AMD hardware as well...

Totally worth it when you have modern hardware to support it… way smoother.

The best is to wait until DX12 is no longer in beta.

Or the best is to way until Asobo completely get's rid of that old FSX code 🙂

I hope it will be worth it in the long run. Asobo has invested a lot on these enhancements, so I expect more improvements in future updates

I have a 3090 GPU and I still find that DX11 + TAA yields the best results with regard to visuals and performance (smoothness).

DX12+DLSS presents some strange glitches (moire effect) on certain objects and some water patterns.

Resolution? Cpu?

Dont forget it is still a Beta DX12 driver so hoping for more in the future.

At the moment not useable for me a lot of issues with this driver in DX12, have still those graphikel artefacts - should that not be fixed with 517.XX ?

DX11 with DLSS seems to work OK with my Rig but still have to do more testing..

cheers 😉
