Worth it to upgrade to a RTX 4090 for MSFS?

Recommended Posts

If you are on a 1080/2080 you probably better of buying a second hand 3090.

With 2x 4K view + Utra + both LOD 200 my 3090 is taxed around 70%….

Allover the place the 4090 is not worth it

Bla bla.

Bla bla

Let people decide if it's worth for them.

The same not worth speeches 2080TI when the 3090 came out.

And yes I am impressed with the AI frame generation on my 4090 using a sony 65 inch in su11 beta

Triple Monitor 4k? Yes

Anything under that your 3090 is more or less already hitting the MSFS mainthread speed limit .

Source: I’ve been messing around and testing the 4090 for two days.

Triple monitors and single monitor technically render the same speed, it still renders the same amount of data.
I guess it might help though for different camera views, which might add extra load I suppose.

I currently have the RTX 3090 FE but am thinking whether or not if I should get the RTX 4090 card. I run the sim in 4K ultra settings and would love to be able to get better performance if the 4090 will make a noticeable difference.

Let me know if you’re able to find one, it’s a total word not allowed show right now in regards to availability. Nvidia is running some kind of priority access program for the FE cards that you can’t sign up for. They’re using a lottery on email addresses that signed up for the “Inform me when available” on their website.

Another disgraceful release of GPU’s across the board. Second time around their inability to control scalpers is criminal. At least EVGA made the effort and sold directly to gamers, but that ship has sailed now.

I have pretty much the same setup as you (except for a 1200w PSU), and recently considered upgrading the card. I've decided to upgrade the CPU and M/B, I think that would benefit other applications as well, and would alleviate the CPU bound a little.

You could buy a pretty nice eBike for the price.

Dont think they are available anyway.

At that point, you probably have near the same risks as riding a motorocycle, which I've heard is roughly the same risk as flying a Cessna.
So if I'm going to risk it, between the 3, I'd rather fly a Cessna than ride a motorcycle or e-bike, though e-bike is a lot cheaper.

Most so-called high end graphics cards are solutions in search of problems (or gullible wallets).😄

Getting great performance with i12700k 3080ti now if I had plenty of money would buy one for sure but reality sets in and I don't really need it

I have a 3090 and it runs MSFS very smoothly with good FPS at ultra settings, so I see no need to upgrade.

IMO, with a 3080, the most sensible upgrade for MSFS at the moment (or in the very near future) would be an Intel 13th gen or AMD Ryzen 7000 3D-series CPU upgrade, with DDR5 memory. I have a 9900k (which isn't all too different from a 10900) and a 3080 Ti, and my GPU 'outruns' my CPU even at 4k in just about any scenario, and the worst performing moments (Fenix or PMDG, addon airport, lots of traffic) are always main thread limited.

Just my 2 pence

I'd believe that if they weren't posting on a forum asking for advice. if they knew they wouldn't ask. IOW...you don't need it.
