October 15, 20223 yr Some impressions from a happy 4090 owner (official forums) Quote 4090 on a 5800x, 32go DDR 4 with a Quest 2. Playing in VR is definitely a whole new experience. I can play at 45fps (90Hz ASW ON) with -19% headroom with all graphics settings set to Ultra. With DLSS set to Quality, I can push the supersampling to the max, so above 4K and no more shimmering is a delight for the eyes I’ll try pushing the refresh rate to 90Hz and 120Hz which is the only thing that’s not maxed out at this point. A game changer in my opinion (DLSS plays a big role in this as well obviously), no more stutter, even with an airliner at a big airport, everything’s butter smooth absolutely everywhere. October 16, 20223 yr Maybe you would get more of a boost in upgrading the CPU to the Intel 13th gen or AMD 7000 series? If you max out frames on the RTX 4090 a bit pointless as well if you don't run high refresh screens which may be worth investing in first (you didn't mention your monitor) Edited October 16, 20223 yr by level7

What is your definition of noticeable difference? Right now I can everything ULTRA except LOD@200 at 4k and 30fps locked for a smooth flight no matter where I fly. If I can get 60fps out of a 4090 (and CPU upgrade) at 1440p, then I think its worth the upgrade for panning in TIR.
October 16, 20223 yr Based on this video, seems like DLSS 3 can give 2x the FPS of DLSS 2? Mind you, the electronic glass panels in the cockpit are probably still blurry if DLSS is being used, until Asobo & Nvidia come out with a fix to mask the glass panels in DLSS. But if you don't mind the blurry glass panels and you want to use DLSS to improve the FPS, it appears the 4090 using DLSS 3 can give 2x the FPS of DLSS 2, at least according to this video. So theoretically, the 4090 should give 2x the FPS as the 3090, if both are using DLSS - 4090 would be using DLSS 3, and 3090 would be using DLSS 2. I would like to see more videos though, comparing DLSS 3 and DLSS 2. Maybe this one video is an exception and DLSS 3 performance over DLSS 2 is not really that great. October 16, 20223 yr Generally specking I'd say that 3090 owners would be looking at an upgrade to 5000 series graphic cards. 4000 series are a good upgrade for anyone on a 2000 series card or lower. Going from a 3090 to a 4090 is very extravagant, unless you can get a very big chunk of change for used 3090 which you can't unless you find a sucker and are willing to take advantage of said sucker. my 3090 cost me over $2500 two years ago. So that's more than $100 bucks a month. That's more than I pay for my unlimited internet access. If I could get $1500 for my 3090 I'd go to a 4090 but I cant so I wont. The problem with buying the best hardware money can buy is that you have to upgrade every few months a great expense. October 16, 20223 yr As a regular user of Fenix I’m torn between waiting for 4090 or just going for a 3090ti. I know CPU matters here but my 5900x should be respectable and I may upgrade to 5800x3d using the cost saving if I don’t go for a 4090. Can any 3090/ti users confirm what FPS they get with Fenix running at 4K?

Take into consideration that DLSS 3 is a very new technology. It may get even better over the next few years. You could be looking back and regretting that you didn't get a card that could use DLSS 3 a few years down the road, when DLSS 3 has improved further. The only exception is if you find a 3090 Ti for dirt cheap - then it may be worth it. And I say this as someone who purchased a 3060 Ti about half a year ago (although I built my new computer for work related reasons and not purely for MSFS, so I couldn't wait). October 16, 20223 yr For years people wanted crispier textures and a sharper image. Now with DLSL 2 and 3 we are going to re-introduce less sharpness in the distance to get higher fps. Downscaling first and then upscaling. The difference in sharpness of the whole image between TAA abd DLSL 2 and 3 can be seen very clearly, especially in larger screens.
